My shop in M.H. "claims" guns are supposed to be back to minimal wait within the next two months but I'm still skeptical

I hope ammo and mags are on the same schedule....

Especially mags. Anybody know if you have mags that hold more than 10 rounds, if you're supposed to only load 10 round or allowed to fill it up completely when at the gun range?

You're technically not even allowed to own a mag with more than ten round capacity. Doesn't matter if you only load ten rounds in it. I wouldn't even take that mag out of your house if I was you.

I think there is a clause that if the magazine is permanently disabled to only hold 10 rounds then it is legal to own. Dustin is correct that a magazine that holds more than 10 rounds is illegal to posses in CA unless you bought it before 2001 I believe. If one were to own one, I would store it disassembled (kit) in a locked safe, never take it out in public and never use it for home defense.

If you are law enforcement you can own a magazine that holds over 10 rounds in California.

You're right, Scott. I have a bunch of 20 and 30 round mags that are modified to only hold ten rounds, and as far as I know they are legit.

So what does the law say about tubular mags and the re-invention of ammo to increase capacity?

I'd heard all this business about guns and ammo being in short supply but didn't realize how bad it was til I started to look for a Kimber base mode 1911 to have built into a gunfighting pistol. This has opened my eyes to the frenzy that is going on as I had a difficult time even finding one on the Internet. I did find one locally but the dealer had jacked the price beyond reasonable at $1,000 and acted like a used car salesman- "better get down here right away, these babies won't last".  I did order one and looks like a 4+ week wait but at several hundred less than the local guy, I'll be patient.

I've had the mags since the early 90's but never took them out publicly because of not being sure if it's OK to do so.

If you had the magazines prior to 2000 you are good to use them. 

The possession of high capacity mags in california isn't actually illegal, primarily because in a great many cases it is impossible to prove the date of ownership, and which ones are grandfathered in and which are not.  Instead the laws are against the transport, importation, manufacture sale and transfer of such magazines.  So basically you can own them... but yeah, don't ever take them outside.  The law doesn't ban magazines that have been permanently modified to accept no more than 10 rds.  A good write up on the subject:

You can even own the parts to high cap. mags.  Just don't put them together as that is considered manufacturing them.  So basically you can buy them out of state, and disassemble them before bringing them into the state, and that would be legal as long as you never put them together inside the state's borders.  The laws make no sense at all.

I hear under the new law in NewYork and California is doing something similar My 870 express 3" mag will be illegal to own. because of this round. These politicians need to understand the constitution. Look what happened to a guy who took Joe Biden's advice he was arrested and Gun was taken. He shot a shotgun for a warning shot. Sorry I was told to never shoot a warning shot.

No no... they were selling "replacement parts"... LOL.  It's a loophole left by politicians who have no business legislating something they have zero working knowledge of.

I take snopes with a grain of salt. Who is their fact checker. and could they have an agenda. just like most news media. We are not talking the media as it was in the 50's, 60's 70's. I once tried to see who owned snopes and got several answers. I haven't tried lately. When I couldn't get that answer. I have decided to make up my own mind. I was thinking of going to the library and finding the hard copy of the bill. Hopefully it will be the original. I don't believe anything I read on the net. Except for the fishermen here and on other sites. We fishermen are very honest in everything we say.

One thing I think snopes deserves credit for is documenting their conclusion. There are enough references there to see if they're talking out of their ass, or not, if you choose to check them out. I became suspicious when the quoted piece said the Dick Act could not be repealed. I don't think that's true of any legislation.
