I stopped by Big 5 today after seeing their ad for an 8-shot 12 gauge shotgun for $339.  It was marked down from $399.  I thought it was bit high, but now not so sure.  Could be in a few weeks even those won't be on the shelves.  It is a synth stock, 20" barrel pump Mossburg.  The reviews rave about it and quite a few agencies issue this same weapon.  I chatted with the salesman behind the counter and mentioned the recent gun show in Placerville I attended.  We both agreed, Big 5 has more guns for sale than that gun show did.  What a joke and waste of $16 (brought the DW) to go see that tomb.  He mentioned they are down to selling shotguns and air rifles.  He said they have back ordered 22 rifles for 4 months now with no ship date yet.  4 months for a 22 and still not in??!!  Wow!!  He said the Ruger 10/22's are getting some outrageous prices used because they are so scarce.  I was hoping to find one of the new ones with the take-down barrel and in stainless.

What's your experience in finding and  buying guns lately?

My experience setting up an AR recently was very much the same. Fully built with a Sig 516 upper the rifle was well into the 2k range. Pre sandy hook the rifle was selling complete from Sig for about 1300-1400. I had to build the lower from a parts kit and the kit was very difficult to source and more money than it should have been. The rifle would have been even more expensive but I jumped on a hell of a deal on a black rain ord lower and a magpul m4 style butt stock.

Good to see big 5 not price gouging and you will be very happy with the mossberg. It's a great home defense shotgun and a great price to boot :smt003.

Bass Pro Shops has bare ammo shelves except for some varmint calibers and shotgun ammo, did not see any rimfire ammo.
Their handgun display cases were just about empty except for some single action firearms.
Remember this happened the last time Obama was elected only maybe not as bad.

hard to find stuff....was at the Reno Calelas and yesterday at the BPS in Manteca. no ammo (oddball calibers and shotgun excluded). Mags are even harder to come by. I was SHOCKED when my local shop called me last week to tell me my order (placed 3 mo ago) actually was in. I was convinced S&W wasn't going to be sending anything in the foreseeable future.

Yea, this is getting scarey when there's so little ammo and firearms available. I was hoping to cash in on my brother who lives in Idaho taking me to the local Cabela's in Boise to pick up some hand guns.  In Idaho, he can buy them across the counter, take possession the same day and hand it over to me as a gift to his relative.  Maybe I'll tell him now what I want so he can at least get them on an order.

This is so true.  A buddy of mine opened a new gun shop in San Jose a couple weeks ago.  Probably picked the worst time ever to do it.  He can't get his hands on anything now.  I hope he can weather this tough period.

We got one of those Mossberg 500's from Big5 about ten years ago. It works good & we always keep it loaded, with 4/shot shells, & ready to go for any unwanted visitors to our home.

Wish I would have built a half dozen of those Stag Arms AR's in November' could have paid for the two I kept and made a profit at today's prices.  Headed to Vegas for the NASCAR race next month and will see if there is anything available there.
I guess it's time to buy some 223 dies and dust off the progressive reloader!

The shops even have limits on how much powder and primers you can buy

My son works at Huntington's in Oroville, and he said that it has been tough to get ammo and firearms (ever since the "run" on supplies after the rumors of gun control began to spread). Although they do have a good amount right now in stock, there is still a waiting list for guns like AR's. But he said it's getting better.

I was in Outdoor Sportsman's in Stockton a few weeks back, and it was the same there. Good people though - I trap and skeet shoot with Bob from the store.

I just checked all the major on-line sites for some Remington Express #1 buck shot ammo, 2 3/4".  Nobody has it.  This is bread-n-butter stuff, nothing fancy.

Thanks Hojoman, but not one of those sites has #1 buck.  (The most popular home defense round)
