We would like to step up our customization for the Northern California community.

I've seen several suggestions for double and triple laminate color combinations.
Can we use this thread as a place marker for color suggestions and votes?

**For visual purposes please include an image of suggested color**

We'll take a look at what is the most popular and work on some prototypes.

The Hogy baits are poured by hand in the US and can be done with two or more colors. When doing two or more colors, the production time and cost are increased. So my question is, it more important for you as an angler to have a triple colored bait and a lightly higher price per package ($.75 - $1.00) or to have the baits less expensive in a solid color that can be customized?

As long as there are light and dark versions I think you a good. Pretty much anything with a small red or orange belly seems to be popular and work. I would love to see one that has a recess or channel in the head area so the large (3-6 oz) heads we use don't split out the bait. I was on a charter this summer and the owner of optium (sp?) baits had a cool trick where he used a small metal tube to "drill' out some plastic to prevent splitting.

I had a couple of days last year that anything with a chartruese touch just killed. Two of us fished a reef and got nothing until I put on a swimbait with a yellow tail. The only other bait I had similar had a yellow belly. We fished those two and got consistent fish on them.
So I'd like to see a color that incorporates a bit of that bright yellow in it, either tail or belly, on maybe a solid white or silver body.

I like your direction on this... but...

brown with red/gold flake back with chart yellow lateral line and tail with a fluorescent glow red/orange belly.  :smt010

or

greyish/purple with black flake back with fluorescent yellow lateral line and tail with a clear silver flake body.

Nice!

Sounds good but the red is unnecessary, after 20' or so red is just black due to the lack of IR light penetration. And the lateral line and tail need to be fluoro 'cause UV penetration is way deeper... I think, I'm not an expert :-)

I brought this up in another thread by Hogy and no one seemed to notice.  You are exactly right.  Red is useless... it may as well be black as IR only gets down 10 meters in absolutely clear water.  All fluorescent colors continue to appear at much deeper depths because of the way they light up in UV.  As far as spectrum colors go, the cool colors, blues and greens go deeper.  It is pretty much like the rainbow R.O.Y.G.B.I.V.  in terms of which colors appear still as you descend.  Red and orange are the first to go, yellow can actually get some depth, but green blue and violet hang around for a long time.  It has to due with the wavelength of light and the way if diffracts in water.

I'm 100% in agreement with the red hue and loss of color past 30', it does show up as an off grey. Same as the fish it's trying to imitate.

Usually, you'll have more confidence in a color and fish it longer and harder because you believe it is the best.

That persistence and mind set often catch more fish than slight variances in colors.

That said, I want to make you you have confidence in a custom color and fish the bait like you own it.

I do believe in red as a "valid color".  Perhaps not color as we're used to seeing, but think of it as a shade of gray.  And different shades of red and orange and other colors that don't penetrate the deep are shades of gray.  In combination with other colors, it adds contrast.  That's why I like multi-colors too.  How many times have you caught a baitfish that was a single color?  How many fish have you pulled  up from the deep that are reddish in color?  Think about it ...
