What is the decision on where the AOTY awards will take place?

+1  I'm hoping they will be at the Berryessa Event. It would be nice to know exactly where, what day, & what time as the Berryessa tourney is coming up here in just a few weeks.

Yes, let's do this at BSS.  Saturday night before  the potluck.

Unfortunately I won't be able to attend, but we'll find someone to run the show.

Hey guys, I'm booked solid this weekend as well.

Anyone from the Santa Cruz area willing to transport the actual awards up there? Alternatively I can certainly ship them to someone who will take the responsibility for handing them out.

Sean, if you can get them to me, I can hand them out for you. I'm there mainly for photo clicking; so plenty of room in the truck.

It would be an honor to transport the AOTY plaques to the event. Like driving the Pope mobile or riding shotgun next to the World Series trophy! I'll send you a message Sean. Let's try to meet up this wknd or some time next week.

Guys.... This is coming from a someone who has attended every NCKA AOTY Awards Ceremony since day one (and also a previous AOTY winner),  I just need to voice my opinion .....

I don't think it's fair to the all of the winners that we're lumping the presentation of their hard earn victories with another event.  It just doesn't feel right to me.  Last year was the first time the AOTY awards was combined with a derby event.  Polepole and I made the presentations and many of the honorees weren't able to make it.

The NCKA AOTY Awards should not have to take a backseat to any event ever!!!

Thank You ChuckE, Very well said ....
It also should include the club leader as well as a passing of the torch from the previous AOTY champion
Just my opinion FWIW.

+1, Thank you ChuckE!  I've been bummed about this too, since many of my friends wont be there due to how far away it is, and being a FW event.  I liked it when it was low key, fun hookup, closer to the Bay Area, etc.  It's also a great time for new people to come and see what NCKA is all about.  It also shouldn't be so late in the year, when there being so many other event's going on.

I agree with the sentiment.. but it is now months after the victor has been decided and announced.  I think the most important thing is that Salty. is there.  If Bird can't make it to pass the torch, as the second place guy it would be my honor to raise a glass to Salty. and present him with the award (karate kid style).

Well, we asked for feedback a long time ago, and are only now getting this.  You guys should have spoken up then.  Also, we asked Salty., the winner, and he was fine with it.  Sorry I can't make it.  If you relied on me setting a date I could make it, it would be some random weekday.  I'll be in Panama next weekend. It was difficult enough to get that date, and I didn't want to start rescheduling this one.

But .... I HEAR YOU.  Let's schedule next's year event right now ... last Saturday in January, ok?  Mark your calendars. It will give us an excuse to get together during the winter.  As far as distance, we can't please everybody.  We're so spread out that no matter where we hold it, someone will be inconvenienced.    So how about we let the winner choose where it is?  They earned it.

Dude Chuck out of nowhere! And I totally agree too. Let's use this as motivation to plan a kickass 2013 AOTY awards ceremony. It's tough to get everybody to show up if we ain't fishin, so maybe have it at a park next to a lake or something...then people can fish in the morning (because the awards ceremkny won't start til noon anyways). And it should be in January or Feb.

My first NCKA event was the last AOTY event at HMB kayaks where it was raining. It still is one of my favorite events. Even with the rain everyone was having a great time. When I think of the NCKA family, that event always stands out.  I think it would be great to have it as a stand alone event. Maybe some day I will place in the top 10.

As far as the dates go, I heard somewhere that the last weekend in January is usually when the largest Kayak crabbing event in the world (maybe, if not California) is held. I haven't picked a day yet and still have to apply for the permit but I usually aim for the weekend before Super Bowl.
