My first NCKA event was the last AOTY event at HMB kayaks where it was raining. It still is one of my favorite events. Even with the rain everyone was having a great time. When I think of the NCKA family, that event always stands out.  I think it would be great to have it as a stand alone event. Maybe some day I will place in the top 10.

As far as the dates go, I heard somewhere that the last weekend in January is usually when the largest Kayak crabbing event in the world (maybe, if not California) is held. I haven't picked a day yet and still have to apply for the permit but I usually aim for the weekend before Super Bowl.

Would you necessarily mind if the AOTY awards just happened to be the evening before your event at a location where lots of NCKAers are already congregated and buttered crab is readily available? I dunno about everyone else, but that sounds pretty flippin awesome to me.

And therein lies the problem.  Since everyone is being so open and speaking their mind, I may as well too.

No date will ever satisfy everyone.
No location will ever satisfy everyone.

Honestly, there is too much whining about the above.  If you can't make it, it is what it is.  Not much that can be done to accomodate everyone's personal schedules and location.  Really.

I really don't care if it has it's own date or shares a date with another event.  It makes no difference to me.  Pat made a statement that "it's tough to get everyone to show up if we ain't fishing".  Well, that was the thought behind combining it with another event.  I don't see it as taking away from AOTY.  In fact, I see it as adding to the other event.   :smt002

If someone wants to volunteer to organize the next AOTY awards event, do speak up.

You are doing a great job Alan.  I couldn't make the awards last year and I missed it, but that's just the way it goes.  I like the idea of the winner selecting the location.

I would be happy to organize the 2014 AOTY awards, but I don't want to do it this year since I am trying to win  :smt001

That gives Sean only less than 30 days to do the plaques. We need to have the AOTY awards separately from other events. I stand with Chuck on this. Although that's just my little ole' humble opinion. hehehe
