Definitely some VERY nice LMB although I'm not sure that smallmouth reside in the lake.  Big crappie though.

How's the largemouth/smallmouth fishing here?

Amador has some really big bass in it.  It use to be one of my favorite places until the prices got way out of hand just to fish there.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

It might be nice to camp there as well - which sites/areas is everyone staying in?
-Cherie

Is there more than one campground that folks are staying in?  :smt006

I think I might mosey on up there the afternoon before, haven't camped in years, so I am looking forward to it! :smt003

Current fishing report from Amador;

Provided by Nor Cal Fishing News
Last Updated: 10/24/2013

Trout fishing is picking up. Anywhere you can scurry down to the shoreline is a good spot to fish. Most anglers get two or three trout to five pounds. Lake is 45 feet from full. (209) 274-4739

damn, my trout-sense is tingling...

I think the sites are spread out a little bit, or at least that is what I saw when I looked at the layout/map. It would be nice to be in the same general area.

For those who are staying/camping, which sites have you reserved?

I have not made reservations yet, probably just going to camp where I can.  If you show up before me (likely, since I'll be there around 7-9pm) shoot me a msg on your site or post it up, I'll set up near you that way.

I'm getting pretty excited and we will have some good prizes, malone wheels, TFO rods, Shimano reels, fish beater, and more are coming in this week.

I am considering a prefish this weekend, if anyone is interested, I will most likely be out on Saturday, lets coordinate if you are up for it.

Jim

ALSO, for anyone who was at New Melones who remembers your score, please send it to me as I ont have a score card for that event and am waiting for that before I tally scores to date.  I would really appreciate any help you might have on getting those scores to me.

Thanks

Jim

I fished Amador last week out of a boat, water is very low and only room for one boat to launch at a time.  barely room enough for two boats side by side from launch to main part of lake.  LOTS of fish (trout?)  marked on the FF but nothing would bite, LOTS of trout at the surface of the lake.  Water temp at that time was 67 degrees, hopefully with the colder weather the water temp will drop more which should trigger the trout bite.  LOTS of big fish swimming around the launch area in shallow water, saw many up to and over 5 lbs. in that area.  I would highly recommend using some kind of flag and or wearing bright colors so the power boaters will see you.
Fishing is cheaper than therapy!

I'm gonna be there.  Great report Mark.  We call'em "crack trout" they are addictive and can be a byatch to figure out but when you get it right they are a lot of fun.  Seems like ages ago I sent in the Fresh Kat's reg. Hope it is on file.

I just called to try and make a reservation for a campsite, this time of year they don't make them, it's first-come-first-serve. it looks like it will cost $20/per vehicle to camp + $3 kayak and $8 to fish. Me and my buddy (and his young son) will be up there Saturday before dark, probably going to shoot for #34-39 spots because they seemed to be as close to the water as you could get (at 45' down,) but will have to see when we get there. :smt006

You really won't need to camp "near" the water for this. You still need to go to the ramp for check in and its quite a ways from the CG. Just camp wherever and drive to the ramp.
