I was thinking about moving the handle back as I have heard it is a pain  for the guy in the back. I haven't drilled any holes yet so when I start I will close my eyes and drill all of them including moving the handle back. So what else will you be changing on your new boat?

There's a few more minor "adjustments"...I'll be working on them tonight (with the help of jdyak - he's got more tools than anyone I know) I'll take some pics and post them asap  :smt002

I'm getting antsy, but I still have 2 weeks to wait for my boat.

In a fit of confidence and anticipation I went to a local dive shop and got a game clip.  I became quite convinced that wimpy stringers are not the way to go after my winning bass at Loch Lomond broke out of one of the clips of the stringer that I had (luckily I had doubled up, and afterwords trippled up).  I'm thinking of a fancy way to clip it to the yak.  The theme for this yak is function with form.  I want stuff to look good on this yak.  No zip ties or duct tape.

I will post pics as I pimp it out and show it off at BaM II.

Now I just need my new boat.

I would just like to say that the GTS Elite seat is cushriffic.

Sitting on the floor is getting boring though.

I had to throw in my paddle with the yak to make the sale, so I am in the market for a new paddle too  (of course, it was in my mind already but the deal forced it)....

Re the rear carrying handle on the P15.  It absolutely is too far forward and maybe they put it there to accomodate a rudder.  I found in a run of dumb luck one day that if you carry it stern first, the position is of the rear handle is just fine.  No parts required.  Maybe it will work for you too.

I just got a new paddle today at Kayak Connection.

Not tie dye, but it is mango.

It is a Werner Skagit.  Not super sweet, but better than the old Cannon that I had before.

WOOT!

Word is that my kayak shipped from OK on Wednesday, which according to OK means that I should have delivery of my boat by Monday!

Let the obsessing begin (continue).

Here's a neat trick for your front Scotty mount I discovered that has been very useful. The larger Scotty flush mount (the rectangular ones, not the smaller round) have the same bolt (hole) spacing as a pad eye. I need to drill out the pad eye hole to match the 1/4 SS bolt for the flush mount, but it gives you two attachment points inside the front of your yak. I have the excess fish finder wiring ziptied to one, and I attach my battery box to the other with a velcro tie. Really keeps the innards of your yak NCO.

Depending on your FF, you might just use the mount that comes with it - I have a Humminbird Matrix 25 and I love the mount. The GPS antenna is really slick too - I have it flush mounted on my front deck.

I have the Scotty 10" extender bar that solves the rod butt / deck problem. Available on line at the usual sources.

And one other thing -- the rubber water cap on the Scotty mount is a joke.  Lost mine the first time I took the truck over 50mph.  A white PVC pipe cap will fit on the bottom with about 10 minutes of sanding - fit it before you mount the holder, then once it's bolted in, epoxy it in place. Perfect!

Have fun rigging!

Chris.

I do not know why they couldn't make it the same diameter as PVC pipe. Would be sooo much easier.
If you have a grinder it takes about 10 seconds to sand it down, but be careful. Don't want to do too much too fast.

I contemplated your seat, but made my decision on the thickness.

You made the right call.  The Apex is a shameless knock-off of the real deal.  Your Surf to Summit seat will last forever.

Joel:  you need to Goop pad eyes that close to waterline, hopefully you guys did.  Look forward to seeing the new rigs.
