I've read through the numerous posts regarding Hobie Brand Tramps vs. the eBay Amish tramps.  I see they post on eBay for about $170'ish.  Any other suggestions/sources?

I have some awesome, heavy black hyplon material that I am toying with the idea of making tramps from via sewing or glue or both.  Have more than enough to make a few sets.  That "looks" like the stuff that the eBay tramps are made of (with the use of 2" nylon strap & plastic buckles).  Can anyone with a set confirm this?  Does the leading & trailing edges have some sort of "pipe" built into them?

Looks like I'm a day late & a dollar short to a set of tramps on NCKA.  Anyone else have a pair for sale?

I think the Amish tramps are better than the Hobie tramps because you can paddle. I have a pair of Hobie tramps which I am not using and can lend them to anyone who wants to try them out. I use them for salmon and WSB only so won't need them for awhile.

I do like that feature.  Looks to be a velcro "hatch" in each tramp?

There is a pocket on both tramps which I haven't found a use for because they are tight. There is a metal bar, aluminum I think with a SS buckle strap. The strap detaches easily so I attached them to the rod with 2 zip ties. Actually lost a strap and he sent me a new one for free. Freshwater fishing and rockfishing, it is really nice to be able to paddle.

Looking at the picture on eBay, I see a square "hatch" that is about 12"-18" square.  Is that what you paddle through or are you paddling between the tramp & the hull?

Thanks!

Bill

i believe since the amish tramps are not as wide, he is setting the tramps towards the amas and has enough space between the tramp and the hull to paddle.

That is correct, you install them as far out as possible and paddle underneath them. The Hobie tramps sag really easily which is nice sometimes because it keeps your fish from drying out but it also creates drag and anything not tied down gets washed overboard. Molly didnt dig them because her butt was in the water and eventually she got chilled.

Thank you all kindly for this info.  We just adopted two Lab's and I am eager to start taking one out kayaking.  Trying to get my hands on a black set of the "amish" tramps as soon as possible.

good call on the zip tie scott. The one drawback I found was the buckle rotates when trying to attache them. You mod will fix that!

I don't mind the "building" process for a set but sometimes it's just easier to buy a set.  I've had to build or restore just about everything I've ever owned in life.  Hope to make this an exception to that rule....   :smt012
