How do you plan on using the tramps most of the time?

I looked into the ebay tramps before purchasing the AI and OEM were  a better match for my needs. Also, they help maximize the AI's potential and provide more usable "deck" space.  They support up to 200# and you can walk on it or place fish/gear on it without having to worry about securing it for the most part.  The material is made of breathable mesh that wind can pass through on those windy days.
My use ... most of the time it will be 1 tramp/outrigger.  I'd like to be able to take my dog(s) or kid(s) along on a nice day.  Most of the time, it will be extra space to fish from or store crap on.  All the pictures I have ever seen on the Hobie brand tramps, they all look to be sagging quite a bit.  The eBay tramps look a little more rigid.  I also desire the need to be able to paddle for beach launches or as needed while on the water.  In the event of an emergency, the last thing I want to worry about is having to stow the Hobie tramps so I can paddle.  I'll forgive some tramp space for the ability to paddle.

Plus ... I can't afford the Hobie brand tramps!

esactly....a few simple straight lines. You may also try a shoe repair place. they have some heavy duty sewing stuff. I use one to repair hockey gear....its pennies on the doallr for a repair vs a hockey shop. My guess is a pair could be made in less then one hour.

That's what I thought.  Another way to add some strength & remove the need for "heavy duty" sewing is to glue the seams before sewing.  Adds to the fabrication time and not the ideal choice for "production" units.  To add more strength from a home sewing application is to simply make for a wider/zig-zag stitch pattern.  I did all my own upholstery work on my pontton boat and it works great.  Spent about $200 in total (materials included) to re-upholster the center console, 'L' shaped couch seat backs, 3 cushions, base accent pieces, 1 console flap and 2 speaker boxes (most of it in 3 different color patterns sewn together).  Took about a week in the evenings.  The best price I had found prior to doing it myself would have cost me more than $300 for just the console alone.  The fish can't tell the difference and it works great!

I like the idea of the tramps BUT I haven't ruled out the benches yet either.  Working both angles.  One of our plastic injection molding companies molds spine boards so I 'm awaiting a pair of "over runs" from them   :smt002

nice...I looked for spine boards on ebay. Cost was good but shipping was a bit steep.

The only think I don't like is it will add nother 16/17# to the rig & require ANOTHER item to pack, install, lug across the beach/ramp, etc...  Seriously thinking about a hammock or something made of wood like yours.  Post some pic's again of it?  I like to be motivated by ideas ...

Just found a 39 page link on Hobie Cat Forum web site with MAD pictures of their AKA's...  Love this!  Get's my creative juices flowing!  Trying to find the right material; lite, strong, somewhat flexable, ideally floats (bonus), easy to install, easy to stow if I want to retract the riggers at "sea" ... too much to ask from 1 design?

i focused on inexpensive and light......I install mine with a few strands of 550 cord. bungees would also work. As for store/fold at sea....that's a tough one. I just use one haka bench so its not a major issue. I looked at all sorts of material this one cost me a whopping $9 to make.

I well imagine a majority of my use each year WILL be with only one rigger.  I like to make things more dificult than needed ... :smt003 :smt002

Just got the first of my 22oz Polyester Coated Vinyl material in to test for my tramps.  Came across some leftover 1" dia Stainless Steel tubing that I had from a previous boat project so I have enough to do between 2 & 4 pairs of these tramps depending on how I make them.  Off to the sewing machine.... :smt001

So... Been a while since I started trying to make my own set.  Made 1 tramp and it came out ok.  I am no whiz on the sewing machine.  The materials and shipping combined with the time it takes makes the ones on eBay worthwhile!  It's not as easy as it looks...  I have about 5 hours in one tramp.  I have enough leftover material to make or try 1 more pair.

So, I ask this question once again ... Anyone have a set of new/used Amish or factory tramps they might want to sell?

Thanks!

Bill
