I stopped by the wharf to watch the sunrise before hitting the water.  The wooden decking was all covered in ice, and it was very chilly in the morning while I watched the last sunrise of the year.  Awesome, to say the least!  I then met up with the crew for one last shot at some rockfish for the season over at the Coast Guard jetty in Monterey.  We headded out to the red can in fairly glassy and windless waters, and most importantly of all the blessed warmth of the NYE sun.

It was incredibly nice out there for the last day of the year!  I had three targets in mind while out there fishing and hoping for an upgrade.  Funny enough, I was able to catch all three of them!  Only none of them were point worthy, it was still fun to hit the target one last time for the year.  I was even being given tips by Dpshim on where to find the perch that might have tipped me into 3rd place.  What a guy he is!  And what a better way to spend the last hours of the year, than with some of my best fishing buddies in one of our favorite old haunts.  Andy even beat me to the launch by well over an hour!  :smt044 However he forgot his paddles so had to send Brendan back to Salinas for them  :smt005

We hit the red can for a few fish...  I caught three underlings on a Bighammer and then switched to the Holiday Lure  :smt004  Was happy to finally hook something on one of those lures  :smt003  However the first one is somewhere down there with Santa's face peering over some ledge he got hooked up on  :smt005  Bloodbath scored a few rockies, while Fishmaster and Dpshim went on a sanddab hunt.  Strucdog hit a nice chunky ling, and then we headded in closer to the shoreline to see if we could nab some more fish.  Although bobber fishing for perch yeilded about a hundred small blues for me, and only a handfull of perch, it was a ton of fun.  Andys buddy Branden scored some more nice fish including a black and yellow, ling, and some browns, in the last hour of our day out there on the water.

Good times!  :smt002  May we all have many many more in 2013!  :smt003

I had A friigin great time out there, evertime im on the water I ask myself Why dont I do this more often>? As we were netering the water A big whale swam buy and gave us the tail. Further out we had A huge pod of porpoises swim right under neath us, and at the red can Al got punked by A rowdy group of seals! Great way to spend the end of the year! I caught around forty dabs bu lost more than half of them coming in as I got rolled by A wave. I just had the under my legs in the wells. Didnt want to put them in my box it would have got my beer all fishy.

Way to get out there guys for one last time to end the year.
Al, do you have a pic of your lure dry? Just curious of what that thing looked like.
Congrats on catching something with it!
