Wow! Great suggestions here.  Look out B&N account.

I have one to add.  Read if you love WW2, true survival stories.  Try "Unbroken" by Laura Hillenbrand.  It will never be made into a movie.  Read it and you will see why.
"It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so."

"The Wave" Susan Casey.  about rogue waves, giant waves, surfing giant waves.

"Blind Descent" James Tabor.  Cave exploring, finding the deepest caves on earth.

"No shortcuts to the top"  about Ed Viesturs, climbing the worlds highest 14 peaks.

One of the best human survival stories I've ever read was:
"Touching the void"  Joe Simpson  Written first hand by the survivor.

Alive: The story of the survivors, by Piers Paul Reid. Its about the Uruguayan rugby team that crashed in the Andes in a small valley well above the tree line and survived for over 2 months with only each other to eat before climbing a 15, 000' mountain pass and hiking 50 miles to a rural farming community. Wow.

I gotta a copy of "Adrift" here in my office in Oakland, if any body wants it. A guy in a life raft drifts from the east atlantic to the Caribean.

"The River Why"  Classic!
"Peace Like a River" by Leif Enger was another favorite.
Not much fishing in it but has the magic to keep you from putting it down.  :smt006
