Check over on Alan Tani's website & see what he recommends. With all of the reels he has tore down & rebuilt he would know which reels are good.

Something of an all-around reel. Jigging, trolling for the usual suspect. Halis, lings, salmon, pretty much the edibles

Why two speed? You can get a lot more real for less money if you stick with single speed. None of the species mentioned would normally require two speeds.

Nothing in NCAL needs 2 speeds... but SCAL I would go for the Avet SX 6/4. I have used it for kayak big game down south and it is best of class and made in the USA. If you are boat fishing Guadalupe, I would go with the JX, LX or Raptor.

I'm stickin' with single speed. Most modern single speed reels are plenty fast enough to through surface iron. What you're getting in a two speed really is an extra lower gear for fighting stronger fish and unless those tuna are over 50 lbs. you still don't need it. Think of all the cool gear you could buy for your 'yak with the savings. Just my $.02

I would look at the accurate fury 400. That's probably the best bang for the buck two speed you can get.

Point taken! Let me ask you this, You probably seen my other post.... I have a penn fathom lw60 which is big. Im looking for a smaller lighter set up for NCAL.  The Penn is at a couple of pounds spooled up, Im looking for something closer to a pound but with some back bone and speed, so I figured a two speed would do me right.

2speed sure comes in handy for Pacific halibut in deep water.  I have 2 Aver mxl and love em.  They make great albacore reels too.
