... or you could release him in a "good" friend's yard :smt044

We had a hand raised one in the zoo I worked in 30 years ago. He was an odd duck, shy and loved kids. I would not recommended putting you fingers near that one. I believe opossums have the most teeth of any fur bearer in North America and are just plain nasty. I have come across babies in the street that hiss and are already pissy. Just the thought of eating one makes me want to toss my breakfast!

Pie is the preferred method for Opossum. There was an old man in MD we used to give them to, I've given him a dozen over the years, he would make Possum pie.  I've had it a couple times, it has a distinct flavor, not too bad, but id rather eat just about anything else. He would feed them persimmons for a few weeks to sweeten the meat, He had a bucket from a big caterpiller machine that served as a catfish pond while he fed them persimmons too.

For the record I did not consume this oversized rat. I just had cabin fever due to the onslaught of rain we were having last weekend. To amuse myself I posted this to see what kind of responses I would get from my twisted brothers.

Thank you all for entertaining me through the wet spell you did not disappoint  :smt008

I like to eat a lot of crazy stuff but I think Opossum might make the no-no list. I grew up with a whole lot of orange trees on our property and with that plenty of Opossums. Those things just give me the creeps.

Shenanigans! Shenanigans I say!

Those sliders and puffs looked tasty!  :smt005

I'd try one for sure.  Bring one to GS7 and we'll throw it on zillas grill right next to the squirrel.

Years ago when in San Diego our yard would get dug up by possums.  I set up a havahart trap and got one, so I posted the same request at the OP on a BBQ forum.  Those good ol' boys from had a good time ribbin' me with questions and comments like "That's so hillbilly of you.  I am from W. Virginia and that's sounds absolutely disgusting..."  and "How much does beef and pork cost out there in CA?"

I also learned that animals (omnivours) trapped or killed near urban areas are suspect due to all the chemicals and garbage they're exposed to on a daily basis.  But if you do prep it to eat, let us know how it turns out.

How about I just bring the trap and we eat whatever decides to donate itself to the potluck  :smt044 :smt044

John, it's really not too good. Honestly tastes like a worm crossed with a rat.

All you who were at GMS 2 years ago tried my cowboy beans (possum stew), all good reviews.

Down here in SoCal my dogs would get one every once in a while & kill them & bring them into their INSIDE beds to sleep on.  Then one early morning I went to feed the dogs and their was the biggesest one yet, just laying there.  When I returned with the plastic bag it was up & limping toward the dog door :smt103 :smt103.  I got a big landing net, scooped it up & dumped it back into the ravine they typically come from.

Not as bad as the morning I wandered downstairs to find a (THANKFULLY) dead skunk in the hallway
