I need a recommendation for good wire seal to run my Lowrance Transducer cable topside.
Its for my AI, planning to put it my Lowrance Elite 5 either on the left cup holder or inside left the mesh pocket.
I was thinking of this one: http://www.kayakfishingsupplies.com/servlet/the-713/Wire-Seal/Detail

Appreciate the help!  :smt006

I believe I had good luck with that one on my last kayak.  Might even use a little silicone as well but that is optional.  I'll be looking for one for my AI build as well so I'll listen in on the replies.

I just ordered a couple of these:
http://www.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?keywords=288-1164-ND

They might be too small for some cables, but if they work, they'll take up less space than other liquid-tight connectors I've seen. I should have them within a couple of days and I'll post again then.
There's always money in the banana stand.

Coming from the world of electronics and design ... you will also find other connectors from vendors such as Digi-Key, Mouser, Allied Electronics, Heyco, Southco (mostly latches), Grainger and McMaster-Carr.  I'm sure I have forgot one of the big name suppliers but those will cover a LOT of stuff.  Another FUN one to visit for obscure items is Small Parts (now an Amazon company).

Check it out at west marine before buying that seal. They work really good but the opening is too small for a lot of plugs. The easiest way to go about adding a fish finder to your boat would be to get hobbies FF install kit. The large one with a big battery. It comes with every thing you need, battery, charger, weatherpac connectors, transducer pad, battery block, goop, hardware, ect I think it's around $100. You can easily spend more than that locating and buying all the little pieces

I think those will be too small for any of the FF cables. They all have a fitting on them bigger than a quarter inch, which is how big that one is.

I was going to use this wire seal on my Elite 5 install but the FF connector won't fit through it.  I used the seal in this vid which I got from West Marine (can't find it on their website).

G-Whiz also uses a "wire clam" which looks good and also available from WM.  http://www.kayakfishingsupplies.com/servlet/the-715/Wire-Cable-Seal-(clam)/Detail

put a shrink wrap around any connections, and just before you heat shrink them, shoot a little silicone (tub and tile bathtube silicone caulk) into the shrink tube before you shrink it.

If you have problems after this, consider yourself one of those people likely to be struck by lightning.

Here's a great system from Hobie - check out 2:10 to 2:25 to see parts provided with PA 12.  (For Wire seal only)
I can't find these parts in the Hobie Catalog.

On mine, I have just run the wires through some nice tight fitting rubber grommets, and silicone or gooped the area.  Really cuts down on the size of hole you have to drill in the kayak, and is plenty waterproof.  Even without the goop, the amount of water that could get in is pretty minimal unless the kayak were to be submerged for a considerable period of time.

looked at the Blue sea today at West mar. It didnt look like the Lowrance fitting would fit thru the hard opening. Anyone know if it does or does not fit?

How wide is your connector? The CableClam comes in 3 opening sizes: 0.68", 0.83", and 1.39".
