2012 Port-O-Sac Stripers Kayak Fishing Tournament

Thanks to everyone for their patience :)

The event this year will take place on December 9th 2012 at the Barge Canal Recreational Access in the City of West Sacramento, CA. (http://www.cityofwestsacramento.org/city/depts/pcs/boating.asp) (map: http://goo.gl/maps/42hyc)

The rules for the event are:
Best five (5) fish per person(chosen by the angler) as scored based on the scoring system below.  Since the possession limit is 2 Striped Bass, only 2 of the scoring fish may be Striped Bass.  The total points of your best 5 fish as measured at weigh-in or presented on a camera will be your score.
Fishing starts at 9:00 am and you must have a wristband before competing. I will hand out wristbands at the launch beginning at 7:30 am.
The angler must be on shore no later than 3:00 pm and immediately head to the check-in table.
All Ca. DFG rules must be followed or immediate disqualification will happen.
You will be required to wear a PFD or life jacket while competing.

There is also a competition for the most trash picked up by weight during the tournament, the prize for this will be announced on tournament day.

Since this is a "Series" event hosted by Freshwater Kayak Anglers Tournament Series (FreshKATS), points from this event will be added to points for the angler earned at the other two events (Folsom Fling on September 7 and the Fall Guys Trout on November 4) to determine the top series winners.

Note that as this is a FreshKATS event, Fresh KATS membership is required for tournament insurance.  The membership is $15 and is good for one(1) calendar year, thus, if you paid for your membership at either the Berryessa SSII, Folsom Fling or Fall Guys Trout events this year you are covered for this event.  If you are not a member, you will have coverage for this event.

After the event It will probably get chilly quick, so I will be doing the awards at the RoundTable Pizza down the street from the event parking lot.  the address is: 2105 Town Center Plaza #F-180 and this link (http://goo.gl/maps/hDVUb ) will bring up a map from the port to the pizza  :)

Hmmm!  Swimbaits or live bait (mudsucker or bluegill) or maybe even...http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=37364.msg401859#msg401859

Thanks Jim!  Powell Rods will be giving out a rod for first place and maybe...another Powell Rods to second place (crossing my fingers on the second rod).

I think that there will be some big fish caught that day. From the reports of fish being caught in Rio Vista right now and the way they move up in Nov-Dec should be good!

Yes!  Just follow Matt and his buddy...sorry forgot your name.

Yes!  Nov-Dec is the better months at the port so there is no reason to go far if you live near Sac.  You just have to find the fish or school.

Jim!  Just received the rod for first place the other day.  Powell Endurance 755 Glass/Comp.  I personally have one and used it for swimbait, sub surface stuff, cranking, jigging for salmon/striper, top water, and spinners.

Since I only fly fish right now that nice rod will get me started on my new set of conventional rods.  The biggest fish will be caught by the secret purple fly!!!!
