I messed up this week. Usually at lunch while at work, when the family is not around, but never around kids or other people with same issue. Feeling crappy, tired, tingling hands and very irritated! I relapsed this week at work and I'm not feeling so great about it.

Not weed, but carbohydrates and sugar, seriously:)
Last november I found out my blood sugars were high. I've been eating really, really well since then. Counting carbs, Drinking only water, no candy, and so on. I've been getting plenty of exercise though, and still only drink water, but the relapse is tough, specially the carbs and sweets.

Any other people here with blood sugar issues or diabetes ever go through this, or have a family member that has? Nothings harder to quit then food (carbs)

Bummer dude.

Hang in there bro...you're so much healthier than you used to be.

Keep it up.

I'll have extra water and clifbars on the yak on sunday for you to make sure you don't get shaky before the paddle back in.

Jim

Yeah bro, I'm trying to drop some flab, my dad had some diabetic issues, so does my younger brother, so I'm sure the apple doesn't fall too far...

I was really hoping that the kayak workout would shed the lbs., but then the ensuing pot-luck negates the progress. :smt044

You can do it! :smt001

Thanks Guys.

Jim, I know you always got the chronic clifbar stash and know I can stop there if needed! Much appreciated. :)

Yeah, I feel much healthier eating properly.

Im a healthy weight, I am my natural weight now, lost 41lbs in several months just by limiting my carb intake and drinking water. Exercise in the form of diving, kayaking and the exercise bike.

Yeah diabetes seems like it runs in families.

Andy, foods are crazy hard to quit :)

Oh man.  I relapsed big time.  I've been making pizza.  And they're really good.

I've been munching on cheese crackers.  There's just so much jerky and fruit I can snack on.

Don't sweat the slight setback.  Hop back on that carbless, sugarless wagon.  You'll feel better on so many levels.

At least keep the sugar consumption to a minimum or you may eventually end up like me, reduced to the use of one eye.

Keep a candy bar handy, in case your blood sugar level falls too low. You will know when it happens...creepy crawlies all over your body.

Though not diabetic, I am fighting the same fight with high blood sugars and tryglicerides.. being 40lbs overweight is killing me. At 48 and in my condition heart attack is inevitable. I have dropped 13lbs and hope to get where you are. To a good natural weight. Keep with it. It is important. Don't freak out over a fall, dust off and keep going. Sucks but beats the result of ignoring health issues till.......
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

Hang in there!

I'm diabetic and went on a carb restricted diet.  If I do have carbs I eat an equal amount of protein which slows the absorption of the sugar and lessens the spike.  I have lost 55lbs to date, but when I'm not active I overeat.  The good news is that the less overweight I am the better I can handle the food carbs.  I still avoid the candy, but I always crave sweets.  I also gave up alcohol and nicotine.

The terrible thing about food is that you have to eat.  You can't give it up like booze or smokes so you are tempted 24/7.  Don't let the slip up bother you or you can lose hope and keep binge eating because "you can't win".  Take it 1 day at a time and keep up the good work!

Remember, you're not alone.  I'm starving too!

Porky, a close family member was just diagnosed with Type 2. They are taking Metaformin now as well as eating better & exercising more. It's under control for the time being. Also one of my best friends relapsed recently having to go back on Metaformin for a short period. He went on a full on vegan diet plus exercising 6 days a week and lost about 50lbs. Real proud of him & he looks ripped & doesn't have to take the Metaformin now. Sounds like you're doing great bud. Keep up the good work!

I'm not diabetic and i try very hard to stay that way but my 10year old son and my wife are both type 2 diabetics and its hard trying to keep A healthy diet going for them, its a lot of work. My son Derek is just starting to learn how to take his own blood sugar count but not yet old enough to administer his own insulin so my wife and i have to do it for him.
I still have challenges with my son not to eat foods with lots of sugar.  Those ice cream trucks that come by the neighbor hood doesn't make it easy. All the other kids are gathering around buying the goodies while i have to call my son in because he's not allowed to buy sweets.

Hang in there Porkey its Okay to veeroff  off course as long as you could get back on track.

Hang tough Porky. Do you use a tracker like my fitness pal or fitday?  You can see your running carb total for the day and know when it's time for beef jerky, chicken breast or fresh caught fish.

Porky, I go through hell every day with Carbs.  I grew in Southern New England and Italian food was everywhere.  I have found things like plain lowfat yogurt with a teaspoon or two of sugar free jam is a good snack.  Green apples aren't that bad,  eat a salad before your main meal.  Read every package you pick up.  Walk instead of using an elevator.  Walk every day if possible even if it is only a mile or so, it helps.  When you go to a rexsturant, ask for a to go box the moment your meal comes to you, and place half your meal in the box.  It makes a huge difference.  Or GF and I order one large thing then a smaller thing like a good salald and split it between us.  Every type 2 I know (myself included) has bad times.  Type 1's sometimes have the advantage as they never know what they are missing, we unfortunelty do.  Hang in there brother, you can do it!

dude, your login name so doesn't fit you anymore, I didn't even recognize you at Cap that day until you spoke up!
Getting to that healthy weight is a huge achievement, something I constantly try to keep up with.
You can consider yourself an inspiration.

Thanks guys, good to know theres others!

yeah I gained 40 pounds sitting at my desk at fox for 12 years working long hours, eating crap at lunch with the others. My new job I move around a lot more, which is a blessing.

If I walk up to your camp site with my kid, and your stuffing your face with donuts, please put them away or do it somewhere else, or I'll call the medics in, sugar makes me very uncomfortable.

I'm kidding :)

Big part of how I got this problem, I think, was by drinking coffe in the AM, then not eating all day till about 2pm or so. Very important to eat a healthy breakfast first, then graze throughout the day.
