Season is open now. Forgot when it closes. And I'd say most places are open except MPA's, etc etc. Basically not off La Jolla Shores area. If you get stuff together, I'll be down there Oct 20-21 and wouldn't mind doing a dive Saturday night.

Last winter I was visiting the inlaws in Ventura and saw two guys at dusk launching yaks with a few hoops. Since there is no real structure around I assume they we're working the harbor (rock) break wall. They we're not diving but at least it must have been the right area

Andy, I've gotten a few invites from some socal folks on Freedive Addict and Facebook to go down and dive for lobsters with them but I can't make it...

If you don't get any other leads/info on here, I'll see if I can hook you up with them.

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

This may be a useful link.  I followed some of his hoop net suggestions and they have paid off for me in spades on dungeness.

So far it's the best season in years...in terms of both quantity and quality. Bu you aint gonna get shit freediving to 20ft. Bring some hoopnets for backup.
I know a guy, if you want info or a dive partner. You've met him before. I bet he's already pulled 20+ bugs since 9/30.

I don't know about that.  I've taken a majority my lobster in the sub 20' depth.

Andy, I'm sure your buddy will get you ready, maybe I'll see you before your trip and share with you how I did it.

if you are ever in santa barbara area let me know. i head down there as much as i can. a good light and nht bag or any bag is key!

lobsters are usually found in shallow on the coast. they are often found in eel grass covered areas.they can also be found hiding in reef area with good holes. they hide under boulders and in little caves in eel grass areas. they hide in their holes but come out during the night to feed. so if you dive during the day you have to get in small ledges and caves. you really have to be a bit balzy to shove half you body in a cave in search of lobster.

if you hAve any questions or want to go dive hit me up! im happy to show you nor cal guys some south central spots. i still need to head north and pull my first ab

Ab diving is a lot easier since they don't move. Thanks for the invite and anytime you want to go get some abs just post a hookup. I personally have half an ab card to fill this season. So I have at least four more ab trips before it closes.

Andy and Jim, let me know if you are ever down there. It will only be a couple of hours drive from here in Az. I will be there anytime you are down there. I am already trying to plan vacation around the big fishing events.
