no need for amas or even rudders. Light weight, simple, not a lot of moving parts, cheap and portable.

Any idea of the cost? Looks easy enough! Reminds me of the Polynesian sale.

Looks like you can only sail one direction. With the wind mostly. Be great if there was an offshore wind in the morning, and onshore in the afternoon.

It may be a commercial but that is one of the coolest videos ever. Whale full breach, fast sailing, gnar WX, and HH shark trolling strike. Geez, I want to move down under.  :smt008

You could but it would be better to add a jib.

The Pacific Action Sails for kayaks have been around for awhile, and I'm really surprised no one we know around here owns one.  I look forward to seeing what you guys think about the demo they're sending Mooch.

The DIY rig that Mark "fishshim" looks like a cool way to go if you've got the time and skills to experiment.

do you think you could install one of those on an AI?
Ben... Believe-it-or-not... It's already been done as alternative to a jib sail to boost downwind speed.  Photo courtesy of Hobie Island sailing enthusiast  "CaptnChaos".

However, I agree with Scott.  A furling jib would be the way to go.
