What do you guys think of this kind of install? Would rather not drill holes on my new yak.

I'm nearsighted even with glasses so it would leave me room for a rod holder and moving around and also close enough to read.

Oh ya I wanted to also give a quick shout to Ben? (the manager) at Adventure City Kayaks in Oakley, he hooked me up with the 2012 Revo 13 demo, 2 year warranty, threw in the turbo fins and gave me a 10 percent discount for the sailing mast and hobie drive leash after I told him I was with NCKA. :)

Get the ram mount that wedges in the sail mast hole.  Then just run your cables out of the front hatch and voila! Instant hookup, at least until you figure out your exact layout.

I put mine on a Scotty flush mount rod holder just foreward of the drive pedals on the right side. I just run the cables through the hatch then close the lid, it's not tight enuff to damage cables. I raised the unit a little with a universal ff mounting bracket that pops into the Scotty. I'll take a picture after work if it will help you.

The only thing I could think of is if you hook into a BIG powerful fish and need to move your line to the other side of yak it could get in the way. I do think the less holes the better though.

If I go this route I will be spending some time at the DIY warehouse, not sure how he got the PVC to stay, guessing he glued it. lol

Steph, I had my FF mounted over the sail mast hole for a couple years but recently moved it to the left side rail just forward of the rudder up knob. It is much easier to see & push buttons now. Also the move freed up the sail mast hole so I can use my Hobie sail. I drilled a 9/16" hole for the cable end to pass thru just below on the top of the first footwell. Then used a rubber grommet & marine goop to seal the penetration thru the hull. The FF head unit is bolted to a ram mount which I adjust to be even closer & also can fold down into the cockpit for surf launches. I would not go with a set-up like what is in that picture as that looks like it will get in the way too much & could be a real liability if the kayak were to flip. jim

+1, looks dangerous to me.  Jim's setup works well for him, and it doesn't interfere with  his rudder cables.  I know it's not a hole-less install, but if you neeed it closer to you, this would be the way to go.  I use the sail mast RAM mount that Tote gave the link too.  On my OB I can reach forward and push the buttons just fine.  Or I can even mark a waypoint with my toe  :smt044
