I was reminded today there is a reason I don't give stuff away on Craigslist

So today I decided to post an entertainment console for Free on Craigslist.  I called the first responder and gave him my address.  He was supposed to pick it up at 1...Time came and went, and it was still there.  I tried texting and calling, no response.  So I texted him that I was offering it to the next person in line.

I got a response a little later this afternoon:

"I went and console is not good. I pick up an socket on the driveway. I wanted it You are lucky" 

He was referring to a 12v right angle impact driver that I left outside while I was working on my car yesterday, he decided the FREE console wasn't up to his standards, but helped himself to my impact driver. Shame on me for leaving it out, but damn, this is why I hate dealing with CL, even for giving stuff away 

I thought about reporting it to the police, or harassing him about it, but it honestly isn't worth the time or effort, then have to worry about what he might do next.

Lesson learned, F*ck Craigslist.

I have a pickup listed on CL and some of the idiotic scams people try to get away with is unbelievable!   

I leave all free crap in a box on the curb, not advertised. Never fails, someone pulls up, jumps out takes the whole box ( without looking at the entire contents) and quickly gets back in the car and takes off, I think some people think they are stealing something good, very few people get it, and rummage through the box of free items, taking only what they want/need.

Got burned on craigslist too.

If your trying to get rid of something, don't put it on the curb with a "free" sign, put some value to it, hang a sign on it saying $50 and it will be gone before you know it.

Anytime we've put anything up for free on CL, we put the item/s on the corner.  Put in the ad, "on the corner of such and such and the time it'll be there", and let the vultures swoop.

Don't reply you will get spam emails I replied to one and I started getting dating spam "hi I'm not interested in your item but you sound amazing " followed by a pic of some chick in a g-string lol it went on for about a month even after I pulled my ad of there site once you reply they re re re and it don't stop

Trust me, I know,  You just need a little reminder every now and then to keep you in check.  2 months ago I was chilling with my brother in law in my living room at around 1:30am.  I remembered I had left a cooler out front to dry and went outside to bring it in before it grew legs and walked off. As I turned the corner, I saw my car in the driveway had the interior lights on.  Odd I thought....and walked over to turn it off.  I saw something out of the corner of my eye, didn't register at first.  Then I looked inside my car and saw is was ransacked, oh hell no! ran around to the other side of the car, and there, underneath the truck next to my car was a crackhead trying to hide.  I yelled some choice words at him, and he got up stumbling around, the spare change from my ashtray jingling out of his pockets onto the ground as he slurrily said " hey man...Issa....Issa juz lookin for a warm place to sleep"  I threatened to call the cops and sent him on his way. I guess I was yelling loud enough my neighbor came out half naked with a loaded revolver and followed the crackhead halfway down our street  .

I pity these people, I really do.  Recent events, though, have me thinking it may be time to get outta dodge.

I offered up a real good BBQ for free once. not all rusted out mind you, still ready to rock a bunch of more years.
I shit you not... 7 . Seven times I gave my address out to come get it in just as many days. I had to lock it up so the first 6 idiots would'nt come get it and piss off the 7th for it not being there as I said.

 It finally went to the dumps a month later.

I've sold lots of stuff to some really good decent people, in the same breath a lot of idiot moron jackwagons too.  One from out of state asking to deliver it. Some wanting to trade for some produce. Not Grocery store produce !. Telling me " dont worry man, it's all legal like, I get it from my doctor" ... You idiot, It's not legal to give it to ME ! lot's of no shows and then getting pissy when I ask if they are coming or not...

I just delivered my 60 gal Fish tank and Stand to an Airport sheriff today.  ( Raider Traffic Sucked) He offered $50 bucks to deliver it.  We loaded it up in his truck and he handed me the cash.  I told him to keep the fifty, A small thank you for raising his hand to deal with stupid asses B.S.  We chatted a bit, explained how it sets up," call me if you have any trouble or need advise. 
  Great Guy, might make a friend out of the deal.
