Good observations JT... as far as taking up the slack in the cable to chain connection perhaps you could find a properly sized snap ring, to snap around the axle there and take up most if not all of the extra space.  My guess here is that the majority of the more severe clunks we experience of from chain/sprocket meshing issues.  Keeping chains lubricated and properly tensioned is the cure.  As far as the less obvious clicks and ticks, it have a feeling it is equal parts of all the other things mentioned in this thread.  I have the older style cam locks in my hobie circa '08... keeping the drive tightly locked in seems to help as much as anything else.

Thanks brother. I will look into a snap ring and the chain/sprocket. If anyone else finds anything else they notice that may cause this "clunk", please share.

Could it be clunking within the well itself on the metal latches?  or does it clunk when tested outside of the yak?

that is one possibility, but it is eliminated for the most part by using the hose sections fix covered earlier... (page 2 I think)

Saw the info abou tthe forward "nub" but not the 2 side ones @ the latch.  Does the hose go the same for those also?

No... its just that the slack taken up by putting it on the front and back nubs pretty much forces the latches to clamp down tighter than they otherwise would.

I have a 2010 adventure with old drive (warranty boat) and drive just started clicking when right pedal is pressed, however as I have not seen mentioned in this thread, mine has a skip feeling in it when it makes the clicking sound.  Due to weather I have not been able to test the drive in the GFs yak or test hers in mine. It is an old drive (2006) and has served me well but I would hate to have to replace it

I am starting to think there are times when the pedals themselves become problematic.  I don't know if they are replaceable, but I would think they are.  My right pedal is noticeably more sloppy than my left.

Is everybody who is having this problem using turbo fin upgrades?  My 2012 (with stock fins) has not had this problem yet, but hearing this is concerning.

I think the turbo fins do accentuate any issues that do exist do to the increased forces at play.  On the other hand, don't be overly concerned... these aren't problems, so much as they are gripes.  The mirage drive still functions just fine... It just makes some annoying noises.

Ive heard that before.  I'm satisfied enough with the performance of stock fins to not really want turbos that badly.  Gonna remember this thread in case anything does develop with mine.  Good thread.

Just do regular maintenance and you will be happy for years.  I think the drives, like most things are going to need some parts here and there as time goes by... the drums and pedals take the biggest beating over time.  The turbo fins are really nice if you are covering serious distances.  The bigger upgrade in my opinion is the sailing rudder... you can turn much sharper, and much lower speeds.

The sailing rudder really is worth the $25. In the ocean with any sort of cross swell, or if the wind is going against the current it kaaep should tracking in a straight line. I followed tigerfish around Trinidad head, where the swell comes from the north, crashes against the rock and washes back against its self. He bee lined it straight through with a sailing rudder, I was all over the place trying to keep a decent heading with out it. I got one the next day and never looked back.

I have turbo fins on all my boats and only the set I use on my adventure make the noise, it is also my salt yak. I am hoping to get out and use it soon so I can test out the stuff I read on this thread and hopefully the sound is gone.

I put the sailing rudder on my adventure and will soon be putting one on the GFs revo. It  is worth it to get a little tighter turn and for tracking in current.

Has anyone experiencing the noise on the mirage drive checked their idler pully?  The round pully thing on the front of the mirage drive?  I just found that one of mine on my Outback's mirage drive is busted in two places.  One is on the outter rim, where the cable is routed.  And the other is through the middle, the center of the pully is busted.  Looks like a cheap part to replace, and another excuse to order something from ACK  :smt044

After replacing my pedal shafts, I wanted to say that the bolt on the side, which connects the pedal shaft's to the rest of the mirage drive, could not possibly be the cause of any knocking sound.  It just doesn't move at all, so cant be related to the clunking noise.
