Tried my drive in another boat at cck but not another drive In my boat. I tightened the bolt that locks the pedal position an I'm gonna take it to mlk park tomorrow to test it. Hopefully it will be ok. The hex screws in my boat are tight and I couldn't see anything wrong with the lock mechanism.

So I gave the bolt that holds the foot pedal adjust a quarter turn to tighten it. Then decided id just take the whole thing apart and clean and lube. I used the directions I found from the link on another thread. Tested today about 5 hours salt water in pretty good current. Problem gone. Not sure if it was the good cleaning and lubeing or the suggested bolt tightening. But works pod now no noises no pops smooth as bran new.

Glad to see your persistence paid off.  When I would have a noise in my car (when I was younger of course), I would just turn the stereo up.  Noise gone--problem solved.

There might be something to the bolt tightness. I tore mine down and lubed it. When I reassembled it the thump was gone and it performed like new. Then after about half a day on the water it was back... :smt013 I will try tightening it only next. If it solves it I'll post up the results. If that is the problem, then it sounds like another jog for a healthy dose of locktite on the threads... Another little tip is to cut a small section of tubing that can be fitted over the little plastic nobs that stop the drive from falling through the hole. I used some of the clear plastic tubing you buy by the foot at Lowes. I bought some that wouldn't fit until I softened it up. I boiled it and forced it on. Then when it cools it's a real tight shink fit to the nob. I eliminates any wobble in the drive. I noticed how much more play there was when I used my new drive (without the tubing) in my older boat.

Here's a pic of what Jonesz is talking about.  I've been doing this on all of my Mirage drives for many years now.  An old garden hose will also work fine and is the same size.

I was reading thru this thread to see if someone brought this up... This is a day one fix that should be done to all mirage drives in my opinion.  It allows the drive to fit without any play.  Think of it as a motor mount in a car... eliminates a lot of vibration, and prevents hard plastic on hard plastic contact on the hull.

Pretty sure it's 5/8" It won't fit on until you boil it and soften it. Then it shrinks back on to make a nice tight fit.  :smt004

You can also use rubber fuel line... it has a greater OD and will need to be whittled down a bit for a proper fit, but it also has a little more "squish" to it to absorb excess movement.  I'm pretty sure 5/8's is right, but not 100% on it.

I glued a small piece of rubber to the kayak where it rests on and problem was solved.
