Nonyak river fishing question.
Anyone have experience fishing the Silver Fork of American River? I'm going to be up there this wknd and plan to catch a few trout. I will bring my spoon box, spinner box, flybox, and some powerbait & crawlers. Hopefully I can put my son on his first river trout! I'm bringing 5 rods: 3 for me and 2 for him lol! And it's free fishing day on Saturday so hopefully my wife catches a trout too! We're staying at the Harvey West cabin and I'm stoked. Will be up there for 4 days.

Any tips or info is appreciated. I'll be sure to report back w/pics & video.
Thanks guys!

Hi Pat,
Flyfished the upper Silver Fork a handful of times. Beautiful little stream, I hope there's enough water, it can get pretty low. I usually hike upstream at least 1/2 mile from the trailhead area (Silver Fork camp?) to get away from the crowds, drop down and look for pockets and deeper pools.  About a mile up, Caples creek joins in, and you can continue up to the dam at Silver Lake, although that's probably an overnighter. Some spots can be pretty rough going and there's a lot of boulder hopping in the river. The standard dries (adams/humpies/ants/etc) and nymphs (pt/hares ears/caddis/etc) should be all you need, but you'll need to be stealthy.
The lower section is more family friendly, with places to park near the river, and I think it gets planted.
Turning west on 50 from Silver Lake Rd is dangerous. Silver lake Rd deadends into Mormon Emmigrant Trail, which brings you to 50 at Pollock Pines and a better left turn.
Have at great time with the family. I hope everyone catches fish.

Let's go fishin', and don't look back, cuz you'll never see a hearse with a kayak rack!
