That is nuts! Glad everyone on the boat is alive. I'm sure there are lessons to be learned here. Also is it me or are there a lot of people on that boat?

wow...that was crazy.

but really, was it necessary for that bozo to go that fast?  can't speak for the rest of the people on the boat, but I'd say the driver of the boat "should" know better.

Glad everyone made it out ok...somewhat.

WOW. from what I can see, IMHO, they got lucky and it looks like the driver seized, knocked, or passed out.  Might have been just another boating video if that hadn't happened.

He was off the throttles quite a bit before it started to roll. He was on and off the throttles for a little bit as he jumped a couple wakes right before pulling completely back.

It is also possible that as he was jumping those wakes he timed it a little wrong and broke the right side drive and the boat made an immediate right turn with the power still on the left side. Seen it happen several times at races. If you don't pull the throttles back when you are in the air the prop spins faster out of the water, when it returns to the water it is a major shock and will brake a drive.

I am going to propose a different possibility. If you look at the video carefully, it looks like loses consciousness first then falls to the deck and remains motionless while everybody else is moving around. The way he falls to the deck is strange in the sense he doesn't move his arms to break the fall or try to get up right away. Am I wrong? BTW, the Spanish comments are hysterical on Youtube for the video.

I don't think he was out. He had a hold of the throttles till the very end. It happens so fast in something like that he just had no time to cover his head. You can see his head against the deck in the video too. Bemuse smacked his head on the way down and was out then I think. The boat was already starting to roll and he was still working the throttles. Just my opinion though.

I just saw your post Art as I was writing this. You were thinking the same as me on the wake senario.

Don't criticize till you know that drivers abilities and why it tried to roll.  I've been in boats like that for15 years. Been much faster than they were going. I've only heard of or seen a few accidents. Unless you've been in, or driven an off shore boat, you have no idea how stable they really are. It looked like they were hauling ass but I bet they were only going 70 or so mph when that happened. That is nothing for one of those boats. I don't know the mods on that boat, but the top speed on a factory Fountain PB that size is only around 70-75 mph. Maxed out with MAJOR mods your only looking at 90-100. Race boats of that style in open class race trim only run 110-120max. Again, those boats are designed for it. The worst wreck I ever saw was when the steering broke at a poker run at Lake Texoma on one boat and it shot in front of another boat and got cut in half. Nothing to do with driving ability. Now, I'm not really trying to defend the driver, but it may sound like it. I'm just saying there may have been other factors involved. He was on and off the throttles going over the wakes, just like he should have been. Rookie drivers leave it wide open and don't know how to react as fast as he was.  Dumd ass jet skier cut in front and made evasive maneuver, or just a bad break cutting a wake. Yes, PFD's would have been a good idea, but how many of you wear them when on anything besides your kayak? The only time I wear one on offshore boats is in a race or poker run. The fastest I've been in an offshore race boat was 135 gps MPH in a 36' Eliminator Catamaran. Felt stable as hell at that speed. Sorry about the rant, I just don't like it when people jump to conclusions like you all have without knowing the facts, or how those boats really are.

You sound like you have alot more experience on the water than me. But if I was going 70mph on a boat Id have a pfd on.

I've had my 17' tin can do weird stuff I don't expect when I catch a wake just wrong, and that's at 25 mph with only 50HP.  I can only imagine how squirly it can get at 70mph with unlimited HP.

Usually alcohol is a factor.    An operators license won't stop people from pushing the limits, doing stupid things, or driving carelessly.     That's the guy you gotta worry about when you're out paddling in a kayak.
