Looking to make a pair. I was considering using these (see below) but by the time you add a wood deck the weight may be an issue. I am leaning to making some out off wood. Anyone take a shot at making some. Anything I should pay attention to as I build? Any ideas?

Off hand does anyone know the distance between he bars? I know I can measure. But maybe someone already has.

crazy idea but these may work as well.

Try bamboo Eric.  Light, strong, last long and proven to work well as sitting platforms in fishing bankas.  I even saw and stood on it on a floating restaurant flooring. You have to figure out the right spacing and support so that it won't flex to much in the middle.  Maybe aluminum angle with a brace in the mid-section for strength and bamboo screwed on top.

Check on the hobie forums, lots of haka designs there.

OTOH I think Lino and SteveS built their own.

yeah I have been looking. I like how they make them from teak....I was toying with using our local wood.....Redwood. I just want a simple set. I need to walk around HD or Lowes for some "inspiration"

yeah no teak for me...I want the light and simple. I also want them narrow enough so I can do one on each side or put both on one side for a "super" haka.

I like the idea Rey and Eric.
Rey, I think you can have it built and mass produce in PI. A good suggestion for the outer main support would be to make it of a diameter (1~1.5") that would fit Scotty Mounts for fishing pole holders towards to the bow or the stern.
It being made of bamboo would make very light but sturdy at the same time.
I love it. Thanks for bringing it up guys.

Another crazy haka bench idea I'm considering are old surfboards like these.
Eric...You can buy all 4 for $100.  Keep two and give me the other two you don't need. :smt003

Surfboards, sounds like a great idea Chuck.  Can't wait to see what we all end up with.

Chuck, I just realized the surfboards might not work if it's not stiff enough like wood since it will not be supported uniformly like when it's in the water.  Then if it's an old wood surfboard it might be to heavy.
