Ok guys and gals, so I have been taking vicodin and moved on to 10 mg percocet in the last year and half. Tried getting off it the last couple of time with no success. So today I'm out of pills and in a little while I'm gonna be sick( not a good experince) so i decided to just admit that this Shit is getting put of hand have to admit that I can't do this alone. So I finally had to tell my wife this morning and she just blew up. We talked for an hour and I'm gonna go see my doctor Wednesday and discuss my option. To be honest I may just go to rehab and deal with it. So after the tuna trip tomorrow that will be the last for now until I beat this addiction. It was all fun but I don't want to lose my self and my family. See you all next time when I'm better

Great first step. Be strong and this too shall pass. I am so broken I have a life long prescription to high doses of what ou are gettine over. Knowing myself, I chose to deal with the pain of my injuries rather than the pain of the drugs. I've lived this way for over ten years now. I have bad and good days, but each day is played on my terms with the good Lords help

Hey man, be strong and be a fighter. Your making a great decision by getting help. Continuing with what you were doing is a shitty way to live. Those pain meds only lead to more problems- but you already know that. Just stay strong, focus on your motivation, and get through it. Take care man.

Damn Gino I feel for you bro. Had to get off Oxycontin early this year and while it did make me sick for a few days I've been feeling great ever since. Family & fishing are way too important to let that shit slow us down. Know you can do this bro & stay in touch thru the fight. jim

This is a huge first step!  You can do this.   Prescription drugs can be a godsend and the devil.  No lectures will come from any of us.  We all have our demons and you might get a few pm's showing support.   Right on bro!

Totally agree! I've been given so many different kind of pain meds for my chemo but I stayed away from most of them. IMO, the pain meds just mask the pain and you can't really tell if you are getting better if you keep depending on them.

Keep yourself busy if you can. And don't be afraid to get a second opinion. Doctors are human too and can make mistakes.

Good luck brother and like the others said, be strong and beat this!

Huge, and Yes, get Help...

Very Important... if you have been taken this many meds for this long, you may need to detox under medical supervision, and doing so while tuna fishing 15 to 30 miles off the coast may be more than challenging too....

I'm no medical professional, ( other than a Fire fighter Paramedic, trained monkey... :munky2: )

but have been involved with others detoxing off pain meds...

I have seen more professionals go down with pain meds than anything else...  Rich and poor, dumb and bright, does not matter addiction will take you down...

You have taken a great first step and there is help out there...

AA meetings are everywhere and so are NA meetings, but the message and the help is still the same...

 Available anytime BTW....

here is a little insight from Craig Furgenson, yes again yaking about the dreaded ETOH, but again, it's all the same when it it comes down to it...  Alcohol, drugs are merely the symptom as to why we drink or do drugs....

Good for you,
I recently read that abuse of prescription meds kills more people than cocaine and heroin combined.
Stay strong you can kick them!

Good first step Gino.
I have forgotten what it's like not to be in pain. Every once in a great while I'll be laying in bed a certain way and my eyes pop open and I think, "Hey, I don't hurt." It lasts for a maxium of 10 seconds.
I have seen friends go down a bad path with drugs. Those reminders are the things that have kept me from depending on meds.
Every once in a while I'll take something to get me through the day, but it's rare.
I know you can beat this.
If I can get through I know you can too.
Stay strong bro.

Gino, one more thing bro.  Thanks for sharing this with us.  You candor and truthfulness may help somebody else out admitting their own problem.  In my book you are brave dude and you should be proud to be choosing to live your life in the light instead of shadows. Hug your wife and kids too!
