I arrived at the south lauch a little before 6:00.  Was able to easily get a couple dozen shad using my net from the dock... probably took 10 minutes.  I used my Promar folding landing net that has a green, small mesh net.  Worked very well... much easier than I thought it'd be.

I trolled up the WEST side of the lake and took a pass by the buoy line but it wasn't looking fishy, so I high-tailed it over to the other side of the lake (EAST).  As I was getting close to shore, I noticed a boil going off just to the north of me.  I headed that direction and dropped my trolling rig in.  After about 20 minutes of trolling through the general area where the boil was, Whammo... fish on!   A nice 26", 7.5 lber.  Then I put back in and resumed trolling and another boil popped about 100 yards to the north.  I headed that way and took a couple casts with a zoom fluke, but no takers, so I resumed trolling.  About another 20 minutes and I was starting to mark lots of bait and all of a sudden another boil goes off, this time I'm right in the middle of it and my rod is instantly slammed.  A very Fat 29", 10 lb hen.  By the time I landed her, it was about 8:00 and the boil had again subsided.  I decided that I had a nice limit and I could use a leisurely remainder of my day of hookey so I headed back to the launch.

Saw Morgan (Baywinger) and wife unloading just as I was hauling out.  I passed on the intel and the bait, hopefully they will have seen some action as well.

Had the whole lake to myself... well... there was one other boat.  An old timer in an aluminum.  He kept his distance when he saw me hooking up.  Very courteous.

All the action as on the red X at this link

I tell you that was a blast.  It was really nice to have a day of hot fishing for once.  I think next time I'll use my ultralight tackle and make it even more gamey.

Way to go Erik  :smt023 - judging by X on the map - you caught 'em at the Point off crappie cove (if I'm not mistaken)

Nice!  Just wondering can you use the same bait fish rigs like you would do out in the bay or in tomales? you know the ones with 5-7 shiney small tails?  I would assume so but not sure. .

Thanks!

Eric,

I'm confused ... you said you trolled on the East side then headed to the west side where things got busy but your X marks the east side of the lake.   :dontknow:

Thanks for the intel, the map really helps. I'm gonna be camping up there this weekend ... hope the wind settles down!

Erik,  Good job. I was thinking of hitting mendo on Monday but I don't know about crowds.

Nice fish... you scored big time there. I'm still waiting to score at Mendo. 0-4, but I'm still going to keep trying. Nice job...

Jason... I'd be willing to bet the lake is going to be crazy all weekend... probably not the best weekend to make the trip up.
