Wanted this reel for a long time. Found it on sale at Sports Chalet online and pulled the trigger. $112 bucks with free ship, couldn't pass it up any longer plus a few bags of 5" fish traps in Halloween for $2 each. Score!

It's a good reel. Especially for kayak fishing for lightweight rockfish/lings or stripers. I have one that's about 4yrs old and it still works fine (a little corrosion, but nothing major). I intended to use it for shore fishing the surf for stripers or rockfish too, but it doesn't cast as well as some of my other reels so it's mainly a yak-reel now.

But now I'm browsing the sports Chalet site and there's a bunch of good deals! I am probably going to buy the Seeker Blue Lightning Inshore casting rod they have for $99. I've got the 7ft version, but that 8.5ft would be a great addition to my arsenal. They also have a bunch of Seeker American Series rods for $99.
Thanks for the link!

Ya that's what I've heard so I'm excited to try it out. I'm going to try and hit the Fort tomorrow if I can find a sitter  :smt044. Do you have braid on yours? I was thinking of spooling it with 30# so besides RC I could also use it to bead the AR for some ugly's.

coop, the blue lightning series rod that pat posted will be a much better fit.....light, sensitive but with solid backbone and built for inshore species.  The 270h would be a brute, more at home offshore chucking jigs.

I have both the BLI and American series in a couple differrent weights.....the bli's are my go to.  And I just picked up a pair to match the set of 7 footers I've been using.....damn you pat kool, that price was too good to let slide  :smt003

That reel is getting to my price point!  I've just got a few old Penn's, partly because I thought I'd probably be losing stuff frequently. After 8 years I've not lost anything, though I've dipped a reel a couple of times. I hope I don't jinx my lucky streak by upgrading.
But I've got a few dumb questions:
Will this reel cast well enough so I can start the learning curve on casting BH's for flatties a la DC?
Will it let me crank them up if I'm reasonably patient? That ling in the review looks about as big as I could expect.
Is it a reel I could maintain myself, or would I need to send it to an expert?
What kind of rod should I get to go with it?
   Thanks

Hmm.
I may just have to buy both of them  :smt044 :smt044
Prices are waaay to good for the longer rods. I've been lookin for 8-8.5 jig sticks for a few months now..two for 200 is a dealio.
There goes the bank account  :smt012
