"Fish Bones" Artwork

Hello...

   Inspired by all the cool artwork I see others such as Mooch, Piscean and Frankfishing post, I thought I'd share another one of my metal pieces that is near completion.  All my pieces are hand cut from hand selected materials.  I feel out what the material wants to become and plan the piece accordingly.  I work in all mediums including wood, metal and a little glass.  Some pieces include all three.

   A little about this piece "Fish Bones".  Made from highly aged 1/8" thick steel.  I wanted to bring some rustic fish vibe indoors (or out).  Plan on suspending the piece within a wood frame or it can be hung on a wall or from the ceiling as-is.  When viewing straight on, it has a black look but if you catch the light at an angle it has deep redish-orange tones and some of the bare metal-silver to it.  This can also be transitioned into a 2-piece by making a tail section out of a second piece since I still have another matching piece of material left.  Overall size is about 24" x 27".  If space permits, I will bring it to the PIF event this weekend.

    I do custom stuff as well....  Ideas?  Feedback?  Let me know!  One of the pictures shows it in front of a custom bar I'm just finishing.

Because of the intricasy of the piece, I would have to cut it much larger, I'm guessing about 2' tall x about 6' long.

This smaller piece is in the range of $500-$650 depending if you want it suspended within a wood frame or just "as-is" ready for a wall hang or ceiling hang.

   I'm also open to custom pieces (outside of fish related art too...) and possible trades for pieces!  Trying to work myself up to an AI.

Thanks!  That's several months of work and weighs a flippin ton!  All red oak throughout with glass cabinet doors.  I'll try to post some other pictures of it later tonight.

   My duty as a NCKA member to make a donation.  I wish I had a large piece ready for this weekends donation but I do have a couple small wood pieces ready to go.  I'll try to get some pictures posted tomorrow to help get the ticket sales buzzing a bit!

I'd LOVE to do a LARGE NCKA cutout if someone has the logo in a high quality JPEG format that I could use to start from.  ALL of my stuff is hand cut to having a starting point of descent quality is very helpful.

Being a welder I must say you do GREAT work! Do you use a torch or plasma to cut your material? Where are you located?

Thank you for the compliment.  I do my larger/thicker items with a plasma.  My small, thin, delicate work I actually do with my RBI Hawk scroll saw.  Mostly for my wood but I have done some items in brass, copper and thin sheet metal.

I'm located about a half hour south of Gilroy and work in the Morgan Hill area with trips to San Jose and Santa Clara often.

I enjoy the art factor and always looking for the next great challenge in the realm of items for customers.  It's a hobby that helps pay for more hobbies... Hoping for it to pay for a Hobie.

Here's a (bad) snapshot of a few pen's that I have left.  I do the occasional turning as well in exotic woods, acrylic and even bone.  I currently have an AWESOME metching pen & pencil set that is turned from a matched set of river buffalo horns.  My pictures cannot do them justice!  I also do wine bottle toppers and working on some spirit botth toppers soon - to go with the custom bar!  Let's not forget the custom made wooden wine glasses!
