Uttered a short prayer for your complete recovery.

Well it didn't take long to get some press.

Definitely a misinformed writer. 100 yards would put the attack in the kelpline and perhaps even the surfline (there was a minus tide this morning). Also, it's fairly shallow a ways out, which discredits what the writer says about depth. Knowing the area well because of diving, you'd probably struggle to find a spot over 28 feet deep within a quarter mile of shore.

Mel, I'm glad that you're safe and sound.  Olivia is hoping you're feeling OK too, and she still very much appreciates the crib that you graciously gave to her!

First off, sooo glad your ok Mel. Scary sh*t Man! Sounds like you remained calm in the middle of a storm. Good for you. I've been in life threatening situations more than once, and everytime I've been cool under fire (literally) it's after when you have time to think about it when it hits you... Hope you can sleep tonight. You might want to take a sleeping pill tonight. And a chaser too...I noticed from your pics the yak was yellow with black on it, again like Adams. So I googled "what colors do sharks attack most" and came up with a couple very interesting results.
http://www.ehow.com/info_8480268_colors-do-sharks-attack.html

Seems like they confirm their preference to "yum yum yellow" and especially stark contrasting colors. Also silver looking (no surprize there) Not that we can ever guarentee preventing an encounter. It can't hurt to reduce the risks statistcally. Also, Chad were you there when Adam got hit at the bean? If so, I'd be a little nervous if I were you....... :smt002

Mel, glad you came away from this ordeal safe and intact.
I personally know how this is going to rattle/affect you. The psychological part takes a while to get through and in time it gets a little easier. Staying close to family and friends is BIG medicine...it's good for the head.

Sincerely,
Harry

I visited Paddleboy84 at Headwaters Kayak Shop last Wed. and spoke to him about bringing in the Shark Shield (How ironic). He said if there was enough interest from NCKA he would research it. Right now the cost is about 600.00-650.00+tx.

Sounds like it's time to "git-er-dun"

How about it Danny!

Mel, I'm soooo glad and thankful that you're ok brother! I have to agree with Scott, yesterday I felt lil eerie out there for a moment myself.

If you ever need a wingman, I too will be there for ya! :)
Yeah, DP when we where over to the south with just you and me and few other boats I had the same feeling, especially when I tore the gills out of the butt and there was blood everywhere. I remember thinking it feels a little spooky for some reason. Got to go with the sixth sense.....
