Hey everyone,
My beach wheels finally DID show up, so I think I'm going to hit Muir again next Saturday.  I'd like to supplement my freezer-load of halibut with some rockfish (and more halibut). The tentative plan is to launch around 6:30 or so and fish mostly along the south edge of the beach.

So who's interested?

I'll be out there however long it takes me to either catch enough fish, get blown out by weather, or get tired. Probably somewhere between 2 and 6 hours  :smt003

Is it easy landing at Muir Beach?
I went to Capitola 3 times last year. 2 of them my kayak capsized when I was landing at the beach of Capitola wharf. Is there any special technique for landing at beaches?

Where do you go to look for weather conditions?

Also, would it be better if I wear wader or a wetsuit? Should I stuff my kayak with pool noodles? lol, I'm new to ocean kayak fishing.

I don't believe in using waders in the ocean. Even with a belt if you fill up with water and get into rough conditions or breaking surf you could be in real trouble fast.

Sorry I brought up the controversial "W" word.  I wear my waders only when the conditions allow, and I'm not planning on going further offshore than I feel I could swim while cold and waterlogged.  Between years of surfing and kayaking, i've built up a working knowledge of how the ocean and its waves work. If the conditions tell me it's time to put on I wetsuit, that's exactly what I do.

If your just getting into kayaking/kayak fishing, I'd advise a wetsuit, or a dry suit if you can afford it.

Sometimes easy sometimes not. Really depends on the conditions. There can at times be a nasty shore break there so keep an eye on the weather.

If this is your first beach I would recomend bringing little in the way of tackle and a cheap rod and reel to lesson the pain of the donations.

The beach south of the HMB harbor is a mellow place to learn how to navigate the surf.

Looks like the winds are forecast to pick up toward the end of the week, and generate some steep N windswell.  I'll be watching, and cancel/change plans as needed.
