This is all you need to make a batch of Kokanee corn. Canned (White) Shoepeg corn, a vaiety of scents of your choice including; garlic, anise, krill, shrimp, and Kokanee Special, a few ziplock baggies.

I grind up fresh garlic and use a few other secret ingredients to make a special blend. Works well in New Melones. I grab a handful of ziplocks and sprinkle in enough corn to fill about the bottom half inch of the sanwich bag,i ussually have about six varieties with me at a time, herring, and carp spit are some other good choices. Put them all in a gallon ziplock and freeze it, keep them on ice as you fish to keep them firm. They are placed on the hook of your kokanee lure and are totally essential. Any veteran Kokanee fisherman would find this post really elementary, but it may be helpful to a few out there, thanks for reading.

:smt001 yea the kernels need to be a bit smaller than hominy. Everyone I have ever talked to about the subject is pretty insistent that it needs to be shoepeg corn. Berkley maggots are also effective for the same purpose.

Some Kokes are of Spanish decent... we've caught them with "pico pica" hot sauce dipped corn.  :smt002

I've been very successful using shoepeg straight out of the can without any sauce, secret or not.  Ha!

I do have a tip though;
for those of us thrifty folk, obviously a whole can is too much for a single day.  I open a can at home and toss it into an ice cube tray.  Then I freeze it.  Once frozen, I wrap each cube in plastic wrap and store back in the freezer.  When I go out fishing I grab a couple cubes and toss them into my little soft-sided ice chest I keep my water bottles in.  It's thawed by the time I hit the water and ready to use it.  You can also make up individual cubes, each with it's own sauce.  You can then take multiple flavors on your trip.

Shoe peg corn is used because it can be digested by the fish. Legend and rumor has it that other corn kills the fish and is illegal to use... I have never seen this in writing anywhere. Probably Mr Shoepeg, gentleman farmer, from Ohio started the rumor :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 Anyone know the reg/truth :smt005
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

That's a great idea, love the ice cube method

Empty power bait jars work great to store and freeze your corn in as well
