Has anyone done the Channel Island Overnight fishing chartered trips?  I'm visiting my daughter in Oxnard so I thought I might do some fishing while I'm there.  I'm thinking of going to the one they have this Friday.  Ranger 85 is the boat.  Leaves at 10pm and comes back Saturday 7pm.  Cost - $145.  They have 16 spots available.   I heard the WSB's are around.  Any suggestions are welcome.  Thanks.

I have never fished out of Oxnard. PM Anacapa bob, he might know. I did fish out of SB with Dave Bacon a few years back and it was awesome.

I've done the overnight trips to Santa Rosa, Santa Cruz, and out to San Miguel, all aboard the Apollo out of Santa Barbara.
If you hit it right, the fishing can be great. it is the time for WSB and halibut down there. I got 2 fat flatties on last years trip :smt003

Wow, those flatties look nice!  Now I'm really getting stoked to go.

Jason,  did not know you got family there bro!  Thanks for the wish.  I need some good vibes to hunt for those elusive WSB's.

Scott thanks.  I will PM Anacapabob.

The Ranger 85 is a very nice boat. It's been a couple years since I've been on board, but I have no reason to believe standards have slipped. Capt Frank Ursitti knows his island spots, and his crew are always on point. Ursitti loves dredging up flatties. I've never experienced the boat during seabass season so no help there, just 3-4 tuna trips and a couple of early season island rockcod / halibut runs. Wish I could go.

Yes, it leaves Friday night at 10pm and comes back on Saturday - 7pm.  Oxnard harbor.  Yeah, I'm hearing a lot of good things about fishing there especially at this time of the year.  Always wanted to do it but end up doing something else while I'm there.  Maybe this will be the right time.

Epic Hobie AI sailing/fishing/camping trip from Port Hueneme to Anacapa Islands (closest Channel Island)?

It's possible with some good planning, support, and some balls.  Anyone interested?

^ Big brass balls! And a support boat. That channel gets angry. But once you make Anacapa, Santa Cruz Island isn't far off.

Ask Anacapa Bob, they named the island after him.

It's a much mellower run from LA to Catalina.

That would be a heck of an adventure Chuck!  I would like to try that someday when I get enough balls.   :smt005

I don't think you could really land an AI on Anacapa. The campsite is on the top of the island, and there's a gnar-gnar trail down to the ladder that campers use to off load their stuff.
Maybe the landing has been updated, but years back a group of kayak instructors I used to work with got stranded on the island in bad weather and had to get rescued by the coasties. They said it was all ledges and barnacles with no landings possible in high surf.

Scorpion Anchorage on the end of SC Island would probably be cake though, swell depending, and there is a nicely outfitted campground there.

My brother-in-law Jim I. did sea cave tours there  professionally last summer. I'm hoping to go back in the fall for another trip and make it over to Surging T cave, which we missed last year due to weather.

I'd love to do a kayak/campout on one of the other islands like Santa Rosa someday.

I found this guy, Forrest Mize <[email protected]>who has boat that might be able to take us there.  I just emailed him.  Just thinking maybe we should start by scouting the area first by boat and get more intel from the local boatmen.
