While helping Papio pull his crab straps, I was getting nailed by a couple of crabs, right through the wet suit, to close to home.  So I hung his trab over the side, about the same time a swell caught me.  Not a huge swell, but enough that trap and the weight of its contents threw me over and in I went.  Damn!  I am in.  So now I try to get the boat over and am having a hard time with it.  I finally throw myself on top of the hull and grab the strap on the far side. and over she comes, great.  Now I get in, wham over I go again.  Only this time I took some water in myself.  Now I am having some fear induced shortness of breath.  I try to re flip the boat but its not happening.  I call for Papio and he is there pretty quick but by then I am getting a little panicky.  We get boat over again and once again back in I go.  Papio (why he didn't smack my whiny ass with the paddle I will never know, thanks for not doing it!). Papio jumps in and Holds the stern, that's when we realize the stern hatch had come free and now the boat was filling with water. By know three attempts and boat full of water, I am getting worn out.  Papio had already called for Stinkytofu.

When Stinkytofu arried I latch on to his boat as Papio got back in his.  Now i ask call the CG.  That is a conversation in itself I will let Stinkytofo tell you about.  about 10 minutes go by and the Pillar Point Harbor Patrol are on scene and they get me and my boat back to shore!  Well that's the short story.  I am beat right now, fore arms are worn out from the death grip I had Stinky's peddle drive.

Lesson learned:

Never go alone
Never go without a radio (yes I had mine)
Always wear aPFD
Always wear a wet or dry suit

But most importantly...
Never doubt your NCKA brothers!

Thanks Guys, from the bottom of my heart thanks!  I was really getting nervous and the medic in me is thinking: at him shivers controlled (compensating for the circumstance to raise body heat).  Curl as much into a ball to keep body warm.  him rapid breathing, not good try to slow that down, quit being a bitch and hang on.  Shivers uncontrolled, bad sign, mind over matter control the damn things, not as easy as it sounds.  And you two are its no big deal, you will be okay.  Thanks I needed that. !

Gear lost: three small plastic tackle boxes with stuff in them, a fillet knife, a hatch cover, a net, and a new fish clip, maybe a couple hundred bucks

Being saved by NCKA brothers: priceless!

Wow, didn't sound good.  Lessons in there though I'm sure.  My suggestion is that once you're rigged up, go out there again with a partner and go in on purpose.   Once you're successful, you'll have piece of mind.  Those two guys with you are stand-up.

Wow Thank goodness you're OK and kudos to the guys who helped you out.  Earlier this year I got hit by big waves from a big yacht over there.  I was working my pot and he kept going and didn't see me.  I dropped my pot and didn't care if I lost it and quickly pointed my bow towards the on coming waves.  It was a roller coaster but I came out OK.  I got my gear back too.

Glad to hear all went well after the mishap. Good call on the CG fellas. I was in that situation before where I couldn't get back on by myself. Thank God Allen (hightide) and John were there to help me get back on my old Outback. After that incident, I took the kayak safety class at MBK with Aaron Hall. Quick question, having the hatch missing, how did your yak stayed afloat?
