Sledge, you inspired me to go out and hunt the great slimy Carp.  I took my leftover shoe peg corn from the Salmon Slam Event and hit the side sloughs below Watt and Howe on the American River.  They are all over the place back there but no takers.  Chummed the area pretty good.  I think it might be a night feed though as they all seemed to be suspended versus skimming the bottom looking for food.  Probably would have CPR though as although inspired not ready to put in the effort to cook one up.

Do you want some Hungarian dough bait recipes?

Only if it is illegal (that way I have a cool fishing story).  And easy.  And the smell does not last more than two days.  And it's not some trick to make me search all the Hungarian markets in Sac for a "secret" ingredient that really doesn't exist.

Here are three recipes my carp fishing buddy just e-mailed me.  I'll translate when I get back from Bullards :)

20% kukoricaliszt
15% szójaliszt
20% tejpor
10% földimogyoró-őrlemény
5% madáreledel
5 tojás 500 grammonként

Téli keverék: (nyáron is szuper)

Egyenlő részben búzadara és laktalbumin
madáreledel (nectar blend),
májkivonat
ízesítőnek 500 g keverékhez:
3 ml Malay spice oil palatant (maláj fűszerolaj),
3 ml indian spice (indiai fűszer-keverék) vagy helyette kurkuma

The dough-ball recipe dad and I settle on:

Wheaties
water to stick
tiny dash of anise oil
pinch of garlic salt
about 10 ground up raisins

mash all the Wheaties into small bits in the bag, then add them to the wet ingredients in a mixer and mix (only the kitchen aid miker  with dough-hook was powerful enough), adding water, enough so it turns into very sticky dough.  Refrigerate, then let warm in the sun, then cool before use.  It should be like dryish play-dough made with glue in the hands.

we always used penny size balls on #10 treble hooks with heavy rods and line.  We rigged it with a 12" leader, swivel and 1/2 sliding weight, but  only enough to keep it down.

one trick was to let the carp nibble it for about 155 seconds and take a bit of line (to the point we were like, ooooooooohhhh, can I can I can I ????????? NOW) before setting the hook like driving a nail in one blow.  Then hold on!

Dad and I would go out at 10pm and be fishing under dock lights until our arms were sore and we couldn't keep our eyes open, then I would sleep on the ride home and go to school smelling all funky......(the wheatie/anise/garlic takes some time to wash out of the pores on your hands)  perhaps that's why I didn't have a girlfriend in high school?  Probably had more fun anyway  ;)

I think I know what I'll be doing later in the week :)
