The plastc hook 1 gripper is cool, but I still find myself using the regular bogas, I like the positive lock you get with the bogas, grip the lip and hold the handle. I've had the hook one vice grip style open up on me before.  But they are plastic and don't rust.  Tiny remind me to tell you a good plumbing story next time I see you  :smt005  :smt005

The plastic ones are ok for fish that don't have much torque. I tried one on a steelie and it came unbuttoned when the fish did a twisting flop. :smt013 A hot ling would probably do the same.
The metal jawed grippers flex less.

Ditto.  I've had big lings gator roll their way out of the plastic grippers.

I would have to recommend the plastic hook1 grips overall....though i do like the other metal ones for some applications.....like gripping and weighing big fish or proping stubborn mouths open  :smt044 They also make the hook1 grips in pink just for you tiny  :smt002 :smt044 :smt044 :smt008

I have had The Lipper 26 for about 5 years no issues, I like it cause when a fish gator rolls on you the jaws rotate.

On the plastic lip grippers, remove the coiled bungee tether from the handle.  Drill a 3/16" hole in the non moving handle.
Stretch a 2' length of 1/4" bungee through and tie a solid set of knots on the other side so it can't come out.
Tie a loop knot on the other end and slip a 'biner on or loop over/under a brass clip.

Now, you can tether it to the kayak so when you have a wild Ling or Cabby, just let go of the gripper and hang on to the bungee.
They can toss and turn all they want and not going to break a jaw, or get loose.
