Awesome idea! I've about had my arm twisted off trying to hold on to a crazy ling!

Mine is plastic but has a handle like a pistol.
Squeeze and the fish goes no where.
I'll post a pic when I get home. I love this thing.

On the plastic lip grippers, remove the coiled bungee tether from the handle.  Drill a 3/16" hole in the non moving handle.
Stretch a 2' length of 1/4" bungee through and tie a solid set of knots on the other side so it can't come out.
Tie a loop knot on the other end and slip a 'biner on or loop over/under a brass clip.

Now, you can tether it to the kayak so when you have a wild Ling or Cabby, just let go of the gripper and hang on to the bungee.
They can toss and turn all they want and not going to break a jaw, or get loose.
Smart man!

I have had The Lipper 26 for about 5 years no issues, I like it cause when a fish gator rolls on you the jaws rotate.

I also have the Lipper 26 I works well but the fish need to be about 10 pounds before it will rotate or you need 10 lbs of pull on it.

Just a quick FYI, they are now selling the plastic Lip Gripper at West Marine.  Oh, and dont try and knock a fish out with it or it will break  :smt005

+1 had one shatter in my hand bonkin a ling last year, seemed to work on smaller softer fish though.

Another thing I've found to make them last longer is to never store them clamped. The bungee method is great too for avoiding loss when fish rolls.

The gripper attached to a bungee sounds like a projectile if the gripper fails. Id love to see that video. :smt003 Id get the boca grip if I could afford it. My net was only 29 bucks.
