Hello,

:smt006 I bought a kayak that had a transducer installed by the previous owner. I'm interested in buying a fish finder for my kayak but have no idea which FF would work with the transducer. Can someone help me? Thanks in advance, here are some pics:

Looks like a Lowrance connection.  If so, any of Lowrance Elite FF will work.

Yep looks a Lowrance unit.  I can't see a full picture but you seem to be missing a Fuse Holder.  You can get one at an auto parts store.  Cheap insurance from frying your FF.

It's not all that common to find someone selling the head unit only.  Not to say that it can't happen and depends on timing and how much effort you go to try and find one.  The point being, I wouldn't limit myself to selecting a fish finder based on what will fit that transducer.  As the wiring and cabling has already been done (holes pre-drilled), you are basically good to go on any FF.  Maybe not limit yourself.  On the flip side, basic economical fish finders the transducer is often the same cost or more than the actual head unit so having a back-up can save you money down the road.

If you are in the search for a good basic ff, I saw that Walmart was discontinuing the Humminbird Piranhamax 170 (dual beam, grey scale) for $79.  Generally they run for $99.  I saw two of them on the wall at the Walmart over on Watt and El Camino.  They were pegged in the boating section.

I will consider that, thanks. I'm new and I'm not sure what exactly I have to do. Now, let say I do purchase the FF that you mentioned. What do I need to do? Do I need to re-install the transducer and the cables? I'm also not sure if the cables work.

Should I take it to a professional or should I try to do it myself?

depends on your skills...  or just hit up one of your NCKA Sac bros for some help! If you were closer, I would lend a hand..... If I make it up to the HOW next weekend, maybe I could give you a hand if you go there....

Go to Napa or AutoZone they should have fuse holders in the electrical section.  Mine takes a 3 Amp automotive fuse. Just splice it to the red wire and your set.  Get some Dieletric grease too for corrosion resistance.

Looks a lot like my Eagle Cuda 300 transducer (same as Lowrance)  Check Ebay, there are a ton of them selling there, head units only.

It does the trick if you are looking for a basic ff.  Shows depth temp fish and structure.

Lowrance Elite -4x seems to be a nice ff, but I have no personal experience with it

There is a sale on the eagle cuda on cabbalas.com,it list 199.00 but it's going for 169.00 I think.its a color fishfinder.it should come with a transducer and wires.if what ome of the guys are saying then if the wires are good in your yak just hook it up.if not you got all the hardware to install it
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it
