I just spent a good amount of time filing my paddle plan with friends and family

I always try and at the least text where I'm launching and when I'm expected back, same deal when I go backpacking in the high country..

So sorry to hear about this loss PFD always...prayers.

I went up to Camp Far West Reservoir and spent all day pedaling around on my yak looking for Bill...

It's quite a scene, Yuba Sheriffs Boats, several boats from Sac Fire and surrounding agencies and planes circling . I spent the day working the shoreline, checking the back of coves and submerged trees.

After a while I started to throw a count down yozuri to work the outside of submerged trees to see if I could snag something, and the fact that I could not take these bass boiling in front of me and doing nothing about it...

Bill would have wanted it that way...

It's really sad, Everyone needs to have Bill found as to be able to move on..

He was on a Pro Angler and it was found in the middle of the lake capsized. A couple of the guys from Sac Fire did simulate falling out of the Pro Angler as if one was to have a Heart Attack and it did capsize. Bill was not wearing a PFD, it was attached to the yak...

It is believed that he is now in the deep part of the lake where it is colder. The lake is not all that deep, a little over a 100', but with the cold water down there, it's hard to say when the lake will give Bill up as warmer water would cause the body to float by now or the body is snagged in the tress and shrubs that surround the lake as it is overfilled at the moment.

Yuba Sheriffs are working with a remote but so far no luck...

The reason I'm bringing up a detailed report on this is...

I curious as to who would be interested in doing a search next week?

If Bill has not yet been found....

It would involve paddling the lake and just checking the shore...

It would all have to coordinated through the Sherrifs and My Chief...

Just checking if there is interest...

Interesting lake to paddle right now too with many cookie cutter bass to be had....  :smt003

The lake is close to me so I would be interested in helping. Where was his fishing pole found. Thought that was brought up previously. I thought a hike around shore line was in order.
Possible mountain lion attack?
You have my number let me know .
Also lake is known for its striped bass.

Thanks wildernesshunter,

I'm not sure if a fishing rod or tackle was found...

The biggest tell tale sign they have now is 3 separate dogs have signaled that he is in the deep water. pretty amazing dogs...

keep ya posted,   I heard back from the search coordinator that they have commercial divers standing by, but they are waiting for a solid hit.

So they are just looking for extra eyes OTW...

Keep ya all posted....

This certainly won't be better than full on Scuba, but with a pair of GoPro's and a GPS, one might be able to dial in a tighter XY location of Bill for the dive team.

Strap a GoPro face down on a drop line with a dive light mounted up the line a few feet.  Have a 8-12oz sinker attached below the camera and tied on with lighter line in the event it gets snagged up it could be broken free.

Drop the line straight down and start tracking via GPS.  Aim another GoPro aimed at the GPS screen (crumb trail) to keep track of time vs location on the GPS. Cover as much water as reasonable with said camera.

Review the GoPro video on a laptop and if Bill is located, note the time and compare it with the crumb trail trail video time.

Again, not sure if this will work and there are probably better ways to accomplish this task.  I'm just thinking outside the box.

The Sheriffs have a Robots searching...

There is also a underwater specialist coming in a few days, so if he is down there, they will know soon... The resources and capable people they have working this is staggering...

If this is still going on next week, I'm definitely going back...

will keep you all posted and Thanks ...   :smt006

got to get working on HOW for Kelsey Bass Ranch....

They have a specialist coming in Sunday who looks for missing people all over the world, so hopefully this will be done soon...

I have Crisis Intervention training that I'm doing in San Francisco next week and not available to search again till Thursday...

If Bill is not found by then, I am going back up on Thursday...

If anyone wants to help, I will be at the south launch at Camp Far West Reservior, Blue Gate is unlocked, I'll put up the physical address later for GPS or goggle maps, just pass through and make sure you secure it back up...

Have a VHF radio ( I have 2 extras ) as I will have a 800 MHZ and be relaying our VHF traffic to command...

I will be there at 8am but feel free to show whenever you can...

  Thanks everyone for your support....

Man, just came across this and so sorry to hear of it.  It sounds like all bases are covered, otherwise I'd try to get my SAR team together for some 'unofficial' mutual aid this weekend.  My thoughts and prayers are with you and Bill's family.

Was Bill's kayak damaged at all? I really hope someone didn't hit him and just take off..
