More ocean salmon will be a pleasure and they will be my main target, but catching another pacific halibut is definitely a tantalizing thought.  To pull up an 80 to 100 pounder on the yak in California will be a career highlight for someone.  Just considering dealing with a fish that big and powerful is an imagination grabber.   :smt007

Otherwise looking forward to early morning Koke trolling on the south end of Tahoe in late July and maybe accomplish landing another Mack up there.

I'm glad we don't have WSB up here or I probably wouldn't have a job.   :smt005

I live in the East Bay.  Within 4 hours of my apartment I have access to almost every species of fish we have in California.  My goal this year is to learn to fish for as many of them as possible.  Catching fish is nice because it validates your doing the right thing, but for me, expanding my fishing skills is my goal.  And also, it has become a goal to catch a keeper sturgeon!  Damn dinosaurs!

I've kayaked the ocean a ton and fished freshwater my whole life. This year I want to go coastal and catch some saltwater fish. Also would like to go Ab Diving.

Andy, I didn't make the WSB connection last year after 5 trips. But it sure beats sitting in the bay waiting for a sturgeon looking at dirty water and waiting for the wind. Monterey is so beautiful it makes getting skunked down there almost enjoyable. This year I would like to catch a salmon over 20lbs on the kayak out of Muir.

We've got to go north...I figure we'll get about 12 -18 hours notice....warm water moving in off shelter cove or eureka, 5-15kts over a lazy swell, fish to the WNW, 8-12 miles out.
ONE chance is all I'm asking

I also have a goal of catching a LMB at Lake Merced. (Free parking,no quagga inspections and free fishing and close to home)

When i was a kid-- like 8 or 9, we used to rent the boats down there and fish for LMBs with crank baits against the tules. My brother, Vince Lucia, Tom Kerrigan and I would ride our bikes down...
Sometime around the mid-late 70's the poisoned the lake and that cut down on them...would LOVE to catch a LMB out of the lake again

I'll settle for a repeat of last year, but that's setting the bar pretty high. :smt044

If I can land some fresh fish for my friends and family I'll be stoked. Hope to get out more often than last year.

I have huge sympathies to all who experience the WSB breakoff/loss. I got that first hookup, line peeling rod pumping then POINK! and the spectra breaks near the short leader. 6 seconds of adrenaline and then heartbreak. My brain was thinking "that was it, your one shot" but fortunately my hands were thinking "you lose one, you rig one. Retie." A minute or so later, redemption.

So, you know, never give up :smt002
