I've caught these things in my minnow trap, out of the creek in my back yard. a few years back i pulled one up that was the as big as my size 13 shoe. But what the heck are they? im sending them down to be pillaged and plundered by something. Just thought it would be cool to know what i got in the bucket

thanks for clickin' :smt006

What you have there looks like a prickly sculpin which is a type of native fresh water sculpin found in the area. The fish in the bucket photo is a yellowfin goby which is common non-native goby found in brackish water habitats around the bay area.

I agree w/ Chumchum, it's a prickly http://calfish.ucdavis.edu/species/?uid=67&ds=241  I've seen lots of them from river to Bay but never seen that big(13inch!?!?)  might be a state record!!! :smt007

Yup, goby.  Are you getting them regularly? Those are primo striper bait on the delta.  We've paid as much as two bucks a pop for those babies.

Minow traps in the redwood shores and foster city lagoons will get you plenty of yellowfins! just walking around you can see tons of them scatter for deeper water as you walk by.

Often when I SUP RWS I see a few guys fishing for them by the hotel, I assume for food not bait. Maybe I should drag one off the SUP since I've seen Stripers in there.
