Since purchasing my new Revo (2011) a year ago,
I have been having problems keeping the twist lock seat peg cams in place :smt013 :smt010 :smt012
They are always popping out if I slide forward in the seat to do something, no matter how tight I screw them down.

I have contacted Hobie customer support about the problem and they told me to try:
1, sanding the 2 holes lightly to roughen them up to provide more friction for the cams to grab.
2, put some tape in the 2 holes for a snugger fit.
3, permanently bolt the seat in place with stainless steel hardware if you do not car top your yak.

I have tried 1 and 2 and neither has remedied the problem.
3 is not an option as I carry the yak on racks on top of my truck shell upside down, and I don't want to drill holes in
 the 2 peg holes.

Then on Sun. while on shore break with the Whiskeytown FnC crew, I was asked how I liked the Revo and told them
I love it except for this problem. Then we started comparing my seat pegs with Fisheducator/Tims Outback with the same twist lock seat peg cams. He never has this problem and his seat plug cams stay put firmly seating it in place.
I think his OB is a year or 2 older than my Revo, anyway once we compared the black plastic cams we noticed that mine have 2 narrow raised strips on each cam and his did not.

Now I'm thinking that its the 2 raised strips on each cam that is preventing them from making a solid connection with
more surface area in contact with the holes in the yak :smt013 :smt012

Took these pics so you can see the strips on each cam.

Hobie brothers, When you get time to look at your twist lock type seat peg cams let me know if yours have the strips or not and if you are having the same issues :smt002
I'm going to send the pics to Hobie customer support also, maybe I got a bad design or batch :smt010
Thanks guys,
Tad

On my 2010 Outback I dont have the raised seat pegs like you do Tad, just straight.  But the seat pegs still keep coming out of the holes if I twist and turn too much in my seat. Last time I was out for 8 hrs and the pegs really hurt my arse  :smt044 I'll try the 1 & 2 recommendations you listed, thanks for the advice! :smt006

Huh, your Outback and Tims have the same type pegs yet his stay in and yours pop out :smt013
I tried # 1 & 2 that didn't help at all, may work for your straight pegs though.
Shitty design in my opinion :smt012
Thanks for the info Alain, see ya at GS6

Banjotad checked out mine and they look just like yours I also have the 2011 Revo but I do not have a problem with them coming out. On my 2012 AI they changed the seat post to a twist and lock system so far so good.

I bought the Hobie seat peg modification kit for my Revo last year after many trips with a loose seat from the non-cam style original pegs.  The cam ones I bought have two slightly raised surfaces on the cam portion but they don't appear to be as raised as the ones in your picture.  Since installing the cam pegs, my seat slipping problem has been solved.  I haven't sanded the holes but I do attach a long strap to the back of the seat and run it all the way back to the bungies at the rear which creates pretty good tension and pulls the seat toward the back and may help stop the pegs from coming out.  I also have a gel seat cushion the tends to move around when I move in the seat which may be transferring  the movement that is loosening your seat.

Pat, Martin,
Thanks for the info,
this is turning into a real Pain in the Seat :smt044
Martin I  use an inch thick foam pad on top of my seat, it slides some when I do but the pegs pull anyway.
I might try the bungee trick :smt002
Pat, I'm guessing the new design on your AI don't use cams but a locking device, maybe if enough of us complain they will make another conversion kit from cam type to locking type :smt002

I have an 09 Revo and added the pegs.  It made a big difference since the seat does not slip anymore. Mine comes on and off easily and its been over a year.  I read a post here about reinforcing the inside by gluing PVC end caps which I also did.
Everything is good for me.

I have a GTS Elite seat that I use only for my T13.  Anybody use it with their Hobies?

Yeah, I also did the PVC Cap reinforcement awhile back :smt002

I was just out in the boathouse/barn trying to figure out these cams and did a little more hole sanding.
I think/hope I figured them out.

I tried this:
Instead of putting the pegs in the holes with the cams backed off and totally loose, before placing the pegs in the holes I tightened the cams to the point that when I put the pegs in the holes, I had to push them in with some force. Then I further tightened them using the wire retaining rings as finger tight as I could muster.
They seemed much more secure than they used to be.
The real test will come OTW when I have my fat ass on the seat and slide and twist on it. :smt003
Will report back after I put them to the test :smt002

Hard to tell from the photo but my pegs are two diagonal plastic pieces that fit on the metal shaft. The larger upper (toward seat) section has two raised edges.

I have the 2011 AI.

Had issues with the pegs popping out and I was really twisting them in there. Didn't seem to work. I have since had much better luck only tightening them just two or three turns. The seat stays in place. I also have the air cushion pad mounted underneath the existing seat pad.

Maybe it's because the holes are simply not as clean and pristine as they were when new?

I know this is no help but these are what the 2012 models come with.

On the stander ones, has any one tried dipping the top half in Dip-it it might give it a better bite, just a thought.

There's an easier fix!  I had the same issue with them popping out but not anymore.  Lube the pegs with WD-40, wipe them dry, then wrap them with duct tape.  The duct tape gives the pegs something to grab onto.

OOH!  Dip-it!  I have same year as Al and tried the sanding etc.  It helped but not perfect.  Almost fell overboard when the pegs pulled out on me at Tiki Lagoon last summer!  Like I said the sanding helped but I like the Dip-It idea!

Dipt-it sounds promising Tad!
