in gas.
I just filled my tank today.....ouch! $4.15 a gallon. Probably more in the Bay Area I know.
I figured out 14 different places to fish and the cost in gas alone to get there and back from my house.

Folsom Lake - Browns Ravine………..…11
Sly Park……………………………………………..12
Union Valley……………………………………...23
Lake Tahoe - South Shore…………………36
Lake Tahoe - North Shore………………….50
Tiki Lagoon……………………………………….…56
China Camp………………………………..……..70
Bodega Bay………………………………………..86
Half Moon Bay…………………………………….86
Clear Lake……………………………………………91
Ocean Cove………………………………………..100
Lake Mendocino………………………………….101
Albion………………………………………………….130
Shelter Cove………………………….……………160
                                                    ______
                                                     $1012

Chances are I will hit all of these places at LEAST once this year. I am not even factoring in a few other places I would like to fish and probably will.
There's a lot to be said for fishing your local water with these prices.
Carpool anyone?????

Can't help you in the carpool dept. Just hoping that petrol price will drop sooner than later. Nice new neon avatar pic by the way.

No joke Tote. That's crazy. Not to forget the price of bait and tackle and food which all go up with the gas prices. It's just a real shame to see this happen then at years end we see the oil companies posting multi BILLION dollar profits.
I drive 4 days a week 95 miles each day for work .  So on my off days I mountain bike along the American River and fish and try to forget about it all.  I'm a lucky one.

I try to work fishing into work. My yaks been on my truck for 3 weeks straight. As soon as we get hot weather I can't leave it up there. I've been OTW at least twice a week for 3 straight. Can't keep that up either. Milage is a tax deduction if I'm fishing between jobs.

I guess the best way to spin it is to consider how much more gas would have been burned with a power boat as well.

I do 150 miles round trip to Berryessa ($30). Can't get enough of that lake. I couldn't imagine what those bassin boys are dropping at the pump on a giant pickup truck and a 250 hp bass boat doing the same trip.

Maybe I should probably start learning Folsom Lake...

Tote beat me to this gas prices topic, :smt002
Filled up my Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 yesterday, $100 :smt010 :smt009 :smt012 :smt011 :smt013
The oil companys have us by the short hairs and use any reason they can to bend us over the pump :smt013
Anyone else remember,
attendant would pump the gas for you at .29 cents a gallon,
  they would wash windows,
check air pressure and oil level,
then give you back green/blue stamps.
I guess I'm dating myself, ahh the good old days. :smt002
I'm thinking motorcycle kayak rack? :smt044

That's why I am not letting go of the 95 Toyota Tacoma still gets 25.6 MPG overall if I keep my foot out of it.  Not sure what it gets with the yak on it.  But you right, it is getting way out of control, not to mention inspection fees, fishing fee, entrance fee.  It does add up!

And then never go back down when the gas prices do....

This is one reason why I'm not complaining being mandated to work 10 hour days plus Saturdays. This way I can afford to take vacation with the family plus use some of that $ on hookups. :smt002 And yeah, more fishing stuff. :smt003

+1, me want one.
Remember to practice safe knots, because big fish don't just break your line, they also break your heart.

Seeing the tip of your rod bounce when you get a bite- Priceless.

It is crazy how much it all costs when you break it down though. MADNESS!
