I can't think of any that happened to me personally :smt012 but I love ghost stories and wanted to play.

One of my high school friends had a ghost in his house. His sister saw it several times and things were always getting tossed onto the floor (plates, cups etc) with no one around. They actually had a Poltegiest-type aura psychic to the house. When I asked how it went my friend said "she told us we had a ghost". :smt044 I guess the story was that a young girl in a white dress or nightgown, was killed by a malevolent spirit that was short and covered with dark hair. To this day I think (if it was true) that the girl was gored by a wild boar. The description of the spirit sure sounded like it.
They eventually sold the house and moved to Arizona.

FishingAddict, twilight zone material for sure!

what a cool thread.

ok, so I'm usually embarrassed to tell this story among friends cuz well, they all thought I was crazy and on drugs, but after reading all ya'll stories, mine fits right in...haha.  first part starts in my dream, but the scary part is when I woke up, but not nearly as scary as some of your guys’ stories though.

this happened about 4 years ago, right after we had the carpets cleaned, we put the bed and furniture back into the rooms, except in a new direction, facing door and window (not  good idea according to Chinese superstition apparently).  That night, I laid down in bed, must have fell asleep within a minute or two, and fell into a very vivid dream where I was walking on a grass field at night approaching a pathway where I noticed a figure of a girl with long hair coming down the pathway.  As I’m approaching the pathway, the person kind of creeps me out so I stopped, and that’s when this girl appears in front of my face all of sudden and I wake up.  When I woke up, my body was locked and I was unable to move for a few seconds.  This is where it gets creepy.  I start to hear sounds underneath the bed, then all of a sudden, I feel a hand come from the bottom and grab me by the rib area.  At that point, I was freaked out and sitting on top of the bed, still thinking that it could all just be in my head, but then I started to feel and hear something under the bed so I quickly jumped out and slept in the extra room that night.  I normally didn’t believe in ghosts/spirits and what not, but I’m pretty sure I know what I experienced that night.
If you ain't first, you're last.

When i was  a teenager i was spending the night at my best friends house,(knew him all my  life),his grandmother was there from the old folks home for a visit,Rick began telling  me how mean she was and how she used to beat  her husband  ,ricks grandpa with her cane, one day  she was beating grand pa and  she had told the family she heard a loud noise behind her,she turned around and  she saw the Devil  in her room  and he was so big and tall he was hunched  up on the ceiling and then the Devil struck granny on the back and knocked her down on the floor, well  when the Devil struck granny supposedly his hand burnt  his hand print into her shoulder.
So as you can imagine i kept telling Rick he is full of shit, and of course he keeps telling me no it happened, finally  he takes me over to the kitchen where his mom is and tell his mom to tell me about how granny has the burnt hand print of the Devil on her shoulder, well Ricks mom slapped the rap out of him and said "God Dammit Rick we don't talk about that". I'm not sure if i really believe it any way but sure was weird.

OH yea,i have an Ex GF that will swear on her life she saw Jesus talk to her in a mirror lol

He replied theres somebody in the bed I'm scared he says, we all got up and ask him to point it at us he will only stood outside the door and point to our bed there! she is looking at us..we swear ask my wife and mother in law.. we cant see anything until a shadow and cold breezed went trough the window..I will never forget that day....

When I was 16 years old I was fast asleep in my bed.
My step brothers and I had an upstairs room. It was the only upstairs room with a single door entrance.
There was a stairway that led directly to the door with a light at the top of the stairs.
The light came on in the middle of the night and for whatever reason I sat up and said, "Grandpa?"
Mind you my grandfather was 3000 miles away in Florida and I was in Sacramento.
I didn't talk to my grandfather on a regular basis whatsoever and probably hadn't talked with him for severeral months.
I asked my mom if she turned on the light in the middle of the night. She said she hadn't. In fact, no one in the house had after I questioned everyone.
My mom then broke the news to me that my grandfather had passed away in the middle of the night.
Freaky. Gettin' chills right now thinking about it.
I believe I inherited my love of fishing from him. He fished all the time and showed me the ropes on Lake Erie back in '68.

Well, now you know your gramp is with you when you fish!

alright, I'm in:

Preface:  I am one of those scientific analytical people that HAS to see undeniable proof to believe it.  For this weekend, there was way too much I could NOT explain.

When I was about 15, my best friend had a friend of the family who was a big paranormal UFO guy ( who just passed away last month, RIP). For a while, he was the president of MUFON,  and owned the largest UFO museum in the world.

Anyways, my friend asks me out of the blue if I'd like to take a trip to Yerrington Nevada to investigate a SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) case there.  The theory was that aliens were trying to hybrid themselves with humans, and these SIDS cases were failed attempts at this hybridization.  My friend and I were like...."yeah right"  but who cares - ROAD TRIP!

So we get to this couple's trailer out in the middle of the Nevada desert late at night.  My friend was filming as we walked through the trailer. They took us on a tour through the trailer, and  into the baby's room where it died.

They also mentioned the satellite dish was making some strange noises, so my friend and I went out to investigate.  It was a scene straight out of a horror movie.  The stars in the sky were brilliant, so many more that you ever see in urban areas due to the light pollution. In stark contrast, the landscape was pitch black, the darkness engulfing completely anything more than 20 ft away from the trailer. There was also an erie silence so complete that your ears make up its own noise to hear something.  The silence was broken only by the howl of a coyote once in a while.  So my friend and I walk over to the dish, and start talking trash to it " c'mon, make a sound you POS dish, I dare you.....yeah thats what I thought!"  But then....it did make a noise.  It sounded as if a giant cricket with metallic wings started chirping "CREE CREE CREE!"  I looked at my friend, and he looked at me "did you?..."  " uh, no...did you?" then it sounded off again "CREE CREE CREE!!!" we ran like hell back into the trailer.  Everyone inside was freaked out. They said that a blast of ice cold air just passed through the trailer.......OK time to go!

As we drove home, I was filming the stars and the night sky through the window.  Then my friend suddenly called out...."what was that?" "What was what?!" I asked- I didn't see anything. He said he saw something strange streak across the sky.

Things got REAL freaky once we got back to the hotel.  We watched the video we just taped at the trailer home.  The video starts at the tour of the trailer, the living area, hallway, then the baby's room.  First the crib, then walking towards the closet.  Then the mother mentions "the crib is where the baby died" The camera swivels around to train back on the crib, and as it does, the picture starts to get grainy.  As the camera gets closer and closer to the crib more and more static takes over the picture until the video almost isn't viewable. Then as soon as the camera exits the room....BOOM picture is crystal clear again.

At the part where I was taping in the car, a corner of the video warped over, almost like it didn't get exposed in that area for a split second, then in the video you can hear my friend say "What was that?!"

So at this point, I'm ready to go home, too much strange stuff going on.  We hit up a casino there just before heading home the next day. It was cool because there was this one machine that the family friend would go to, and he would hit a small jackpot ( $50-100) give it to us to play video games until we were out of money, then he would play again and it would hit again.  Just about when it was time to go, he comes up to us and said "I had the strangest thing happen to me.  Some random waitress walked up to me and said I would meet a middle aged woman, who owns a beach house, and she would tell me (...something...don't remember what it was). then she walked off". We didn't think anything of it at the time.  On the way home, My friend's grandmother called and told us to stop by on our way home.  She just happened to be a middle aged woman......with a beach house......and she told the family friend exactly what the waitress said she would........

If I never go back to Yerrington Nevada in my life, it will be too soon!

I clicked on the wrong thread!  I thought this was about wsb' and was thinking about going to sleep tonight. nOT ANY MoRE!  I've never had a ghostly experience but one of my closest friends and his family are steeped in santoria, and they tell me about the evil spirits, and have to sacrifice goats and chickens all the time in special ceremonies.  It freaks me out so bad I won't even let his mom in my house cause I think she's full of bad juju.  Those are some scary stories fellas. GOOD LUCK, vaya con dios!

Saw a bad wreck last night. As I drove by. I saw a guy standing next to the car looking in the window. I pulled over and backed up to give assistance. The other guy that was looking in the car was gone. The driver was dead and pinned in the car. He was the one I had seen looking in the car...  :smt103 :smt119 :smt120 I'm still a little freaked out...  :ball

Belcourt Castle is in Newport Rhode Island.  It is one of the famed Newport Mansions.  I swear it is one of the creepiest places I have ever been too.  We used to go there for field trips as it is more Museum than a "Summer Cottage" for the wealthy of the 1890's-1960's.  There is a large art collection , which has several painting of pictures of art work from where they eyes are following you anywhere in the room.  I would turn around and always see those eyes looking back at me.    I felt a weird breeze hit me, and it scared the crap out fo me.  Of course I was in Jr. High so You don't tell your classmates or you will never hear the end of it.  Some one else asked if the place was haunted, and the tour guide responds with "yes it is , and she describes some creepy stuff, and one of them is a cold breeze int he hall where we had just come from.

Another.... 18 yrs old and driving home late to the bay area from Fresno in my 69 Buick skylark GS400 California (cool car) with my 2 sisters... Parents are 2-3 miles behind me. Almost to the hwy 33 connector on Pacheco pass hwy. See a bright light out in the direction of the fore-bay. Gets brighter till We slow down looking and wondering what it was... I then hear a male voice from the back seat say, "look out" very loud in the car! I look ahead to see a semi truck coming to fast onto the road. He crosses both lanes and goes into the center dirt... If I hadn't been slowing, looking at the light and braking after hearing the voice, I would have passed under the trailer probably killing all in the car. Ended up on the shoulder and watched the truck roll over and end up in the center of the hwy out of traffic. There was no other man in the car but me. As I looked at my sisters they said who said that!!!! As my parents pulled up and behind us. They came up and said are you OK? We saw a huge light ahead of us and thought it was an explosion or something. Ever wonder if time can back up a bit for you? Maybe it (the light) was us colliding and exploding. Never heard anything about the light. The trucker had fallen asleep and didn't survive the crash. Heard later that he was a very responsible person always afraid of hurting someone while driving trucks....

Forward Operating Base Danger sits in the middle of down town Tikrit, Iraq, it is a huge complex built by Sadam supposidely for his mother (her tomb is in a Mosque across the street).  There are a couple of places that were creepy and one done right scary as hell.  Charlie Battery occupied a bvuilding that was up against the Tigris river.  My mechanics had an old storage building converted to garage even closer to the river.  Next tot hem was an area that mmost of us would have thought would have been used for hanging game...except it wasn't.  The racks there were used for torture.  Many of the mechanics said they always felt weird things when they got near, and none would go near it at night.  Tools  in the shop would move around, and things were always even in different places then where they were last seen.
But that that is not the worst part, there was also asmall hospital on the campus as well, it was by no means meant for human care only.  There was also a room for "exctra special care," this room was also used for torture.  At night lights would come on by themselves, windows would open, and moans could often be heard from that room.

Some local Napa Valley lore. Two different haunted locations, but they are interconnected by a gruesome murder. Sorry for the length, but the stories are good.

The Greenwood Mansion, now located in the Airport Park in American Canyon but used to sit on the hill on the southeast corner of the Highway 29 and 12 intersection:

On the evening of February 9, 1891, Captain John Q. Greenwood was working on a broken fence in his yard when he was approached by two well-dressed strangers, William Roe and Carl Schmidt. The two men said that they were travelers and asked Greenwood if he could spare them a little food for their travels. Greenwood got a very uneasy feeling about the men and demanded that they leave his property immediately.

Greenwood’s intuition about the men proved to be well justified. The men then attacked Greenwood, dragging him into the kitchen where they tied him to a chair and drugged him with a sedative. Roe and Schmidt began tearing apart the Greenwood’s home searching for money and valuables. Unaware of what was going on, John’s wife Lucinda stumbled upon the men as she returned home from visiting with a neighbor. The men quickly subdued Lucinda, dragging her upstairs and tying her up. Before leaving the Greenwood home, Roe strangled Lucinda in her bedroom.

The men gathered their loot and headed to a nearby bar and stagecoach stop, the Soscol House, or present-day Villa Romano. Once there, the men drank and briefly inquired about Greenwood’s background with others at the bar. The men found out that Greenwood was known to keep a considerable amount of cash stashed somewhere at his ranch.

Roe and Schmidt finished their drinks and returned to the Greenwood's house in search of the hidden money. To their surprise, John had come out from under the effects of the sedative and was found kneeling at his deceased wife’s side in their bedroom. Enraged, the men drug John into the upstairs hallway and shot him three times in the head. Not certain of Lucinda’s condition, the men shot her once.

Amazingly, John survived the ordeal and was able to stagger to a neighbor’s house for help. John underwent surgery and returned home after a long, slow recovery. Saddened by what took place there, John never entered the upstairs of their home again. He moved Lucinda’s small garden wagon into the downstairs living area and slept in it until he passed away almost ten years later.

The Greenwood Mansion was eventually move from its spot on the hill across the highway to the entrance of the Napa Airport Park. Despite the change in locale, it appears that the spirit of Lucinda Greenwood may have followed. Visitors have witnessed the pale ghost of a woman float down the upstairs hallway and enter Lucinda’s former bedroom before disappearing. Visitors have also reported feeling several cold spots throughout the home (one of which being the former kitchen) as well as hearing a faint moaning sound coming from the rooms upstairs.

At the original site of the Greenwood Mansion, the Doctor's Company has been the site of paranormal activity as well. Workers and security guards on the second floor report seeing the ghostly figure of a woman wandering the hallways. The ghost is believed to be friendly and only manifests itself for a few moments at a time before disappearing. Many theorize that this spirit is also that of Lucinda Greenwood and that her ghost may move back and forth between the two buildings.

Villa Romano Restaurant (formerly The Soscol House) on the corner of Highway 29 and Soscol Ferry Road near the Grape Crusher Statue:

After murdering Lucinda Greenwood and injuring John Greenwood at the Greenwood Home, William Roe and Carl Schmidt came to the Soscol House for drinks. Now known as Villa Romano, the building was once a popular inn, gambling house, brothel, and stagecoach stop. It is believed that the spirits of Roe and Schmidt, as well as many other unsavory characters, still haunt the building today.

Row and Schmidt escaped authorities for several years after their crimes at the Greenwood Home, but their respective bravado got the best of them. Schmidt bragged to an off-duty detective in Colorado about his role in the robbery and murder and was convicted of armed robbery and sentenced to life in San Quentin’s “Crank’s Row” in 1892. Roe bragged to a salon keeper in San Fernando in 1896 about the Greenwood murder and robbery and was sentenced to death for his role. Roe had the dubious honor of being the last person in California history to be publicly executed. He was hung by the Napa Sheriff at 11:00am on January 15, 1897 in the Napa Town Square.

One night after closing, a worker at Villa Romano did his usual routine of checking all the doors and shutting off all of the lights before locking up the restaurant for the night. He locked the front door and walked through the parking lot to his car. Met with car trouble, he decided to go back inside and call for help. As he left the car and turned toward the restaurant, he noticed that all of the upstairs lights were now on. Certain that he‘d turned the lights off and puzzled at the sight, he stared at the window. The worker then reported seeing several dark silhouettes pass in front of the lit window of the empty building. The worker never returned to his job.

Apparitions have been seen drifting along the balcony that wraps around the second floor as well. Visitors who venture out onto the balcony often report feeling an unseen presence as if they are being watched by others on the balcony. Diners and employees inside the restaurant have reported unexplained occurrences such as the second floor lights turning off unexpectedly or finding all the faucets in the restroom turned on. Diners have also heard doors slam without explanation as well as voices, moans, and screams from the staircase leading to the second floor.
