Any tackle tips for salmon an halibut?

I've been fishing at Shelter Cove for many years, and I used to use lots of leadheads, swimtails, knife jigs...etc.  Now I run a barbless rig with an anchovie or herring - catches everything sometimes, but not always the ticket.  I will run bait 99% of the time because it more often catches lingcod, big rockies and cabs, salmon, and halibut.  A "mooching" slip rig is legal for salmon if you're trolling, and fixed circle hooks if you're actually sitting still mooching.  You can catch pacific halibut on the troll, but you're more likely to hook one off the bottom.  There's a tackle maker up here - B2 Squid - that makes some great stuff for the halibut, and lots of people add herring or salmon/tuna bellies to that.

Mark my word:  you do not want to catch a 25 pound salmon and have to release it because you weren't legal for it...  I expect many more salmon to be caught this year.

in order to be legal u cant have any barbed hooks on board the yak tho right?

If you have a salmon onboard, then you have to fish with barbless hooks until the salmon is off your yak.  There are no laws that prohibit having barbed hooks in possession while fishing for salmon.

Man Im getting more and more pumped for this! cant wait really want to hook a salmon! Sense its my first time can any one tell me if I should book a camp site my self or look for a group? Also looking for a team to fish with and some ppl to carpool with from the san mateo redwood city area.

whats the easiest way to remove barbs? take a grinder to em? i got a bunch of lead heads figured i could fix some up to use lol

Chum chum - the campground gives us a very large community area and it's $20/person per night - go with that. As for a team to fish with, stay tuned here and you'll be set.

Im pumped for this i got the time off i gotta call the camp ground still and send u my form itll be on its way in about a week an a half gotta wait for payday.  Still got alot of gear to round up to. Glade we got 2 more months to do it but sad cause i dont wanna wait that long lol
