So I'm chatting with Domenic.  And I'm like, blah blah blah blah blah...blah blah blah.   :smt003  All good, all positive, ya know.  I was actually telling him how having a live chat with him (on NCKA, just now) was really cool and it was reminding me of the first time I marvelled at the wonders of instantaneous live type-chat on the internet.  It was the late 90's, and I was heavy into a great word game called Acrophobia.  I chatted with a buddy I'd met and befriended, and he was in Australia!  The chat was flawless and instant - I was astounded and thrilled!  I'll admit I've not done live chat very often since then, but I'm aware of its availability and appreciate its place.  Chatting with my good friend Domenic this evening, it was especially gratifying if not ironic to note that we basically met due to the internet and were now chatting on it like a telephone conversation.

To expand on that for the sake of this thread, I have valued relationships created through the internet for quite some time, and it's not too hard to establish some measure of standards and  indicators which allow for navigation of what some would consider a precarious arena for making friends.  NCKA is special though.  It's apparent that our sport attracts a special type of person and what has been shown again and again here is that we have values for adventure, camaraderie, sportsmanship, fun, and sharing that surpass what can normally be found out there!  Welcoming new members and contributors to the tournament is always especially gratifying, as I see how the event and the energy we create around it attracts others who may not usually otherwise participate.  Thank you, NCKA, for being that framework and meeting place for us to create true life experience together.

Thank you Eric for organizing such a special event. It's a lot of work to organize these events and the people who do really make a huge contribution to NCKA.

When I tell people I met my fishing buddies on the internet, I always get a double take.  :smt005 Kayak fishing does attract a different type of person however other groups don't have brotherhood and sisterhood that NCKA has. Fishing the Moyer is nothing like GS or Albion. Not to rag on the SCAL kayak fishing community but without the camping, chilling, potluck and comraderie it's just not as fun. Etienne said last year that it is not common to make good friends later in life and yet through NCKA it happens all the time. Does that happen through Facebook very often? I wouldn't know because NCKA is the only social networking I need.

Very well said, by both of you! +1 on the Moyer experience. Great tourney, and I'll still go every year that they continue to do it, but it's nothing like an NCKA get together.

I want to thank Greg/cajun for taking initiative and getting ahold of Jack, the owner of Shelter Cove Campground.  Greg reports that Jack plans to offer the same deal this year for us - he'll rope off a large area for us to have community camping and it'll be $20 per person per night.  Some think this is expensive and that cramming 3 to 5 people in a site for $40/night is better, but the problem is that the sites are quite small, and more than 2 people in one rig will overflow the site boundaries.  That's why Jack wants to do what he's doing - people who aren't into the community camping scene can rent their own sites outside of the area that he sets aside for us.  Jack expressed concerns that there are people who aren't honest about paying their share, and I hope that the entire group will put some firm but positive pressure on anyone who may be trying to cheat the system.  Let's all pay our share and make sure the Shelter Cove Campground continues to look forward to our event for the great group of fair and honest people that we are.  Thank you for helping out with that.   :smt001

Am I having a flashback or is Jack still crying :smt010  about the same old sh!t for the past 2 years :smt009

I thought last years arrangements settled all his campground freeloader/ site encroachment issues :smt012

Last year and the previous 2 years, I have shared a site with 1 or 2 others and we have always paid his full Hilton
Hotel prices for our 15x20 ft. site and stayed within its confines. Also if one of my NCKA brothers camped next to me needs a little overlap into my site I'm cool with that :smt004 I paid for it, and it should be none of his concern.

I don't condone people trying to cheat on paying their full share, but come on now, he is a businessman with a
monopoly and knows how to exploit it. :smt002

In my opinion he should cut us a discount because I'm sure we have increased his profit margin 1000% on Rock Fish
opening weekend.

This is from last years thread

 3 different scenarios :

Scenario #1,  $20 per person flat fee per night.
3 people for 3 nights = $180

Scenario #2,  $33 per site fee 2 person max. ($10 per person extra)
3 people for 3 nights = $129

Simple subtraction:
$180 - $129 = $51 saved for scenario #2. That buys a lot of beer  or 1/2 tank of gas

If we stay in a site can we still visit the group area or will we be charged an entry fee?

OK I'll get off my soap box and stop bitchin about someone that whines about us making him money.

Sorry had to vent, I feel better now :smt002

I hear ya, Tad, and I agree.  Jack needs to just run his business.  I've been accomodating of his needs, but really I don't feel I should have to cater to him - he just needs to run his campground however he sees fit.  I'm glad though that he does want to communicate and negotiate terms.  For the access alone the campground is a good deal.  Where else can you wheel your boat a couple hundred yards to some of the best fishing south of Alaska?!   :smt001

I rented a house for $150 a night.  I'm sharing it with two other Loose Screws.  A hot shower, kitchen and a bed for $50 a night seems like a pretty good deal to me.  I rented it through HomeAway.com.  It's less than a mile from the launch ramp.

I'll always support the rights of both the campers and the campground since it's all integral to the tournee, but I have to say, if it became an all-hotel/inn/house rental event I wouldn't mind!   :smt005

I do love the annual cruise through the campground, kids in the back of the truck, to hand out tournee packs, see old and new buddies, and feel the energy.  Throughout the weekend the campground culture evolves and a special vibe is always present.  The campground crews, unique culinary events (oh, the uni!   :smt007), bonfires, madness and other happenings are a major part of the event, and I will always support that aspect.   :smt001

You know, it's only 83 days until registration closes.   :smt004

Damn Tad you are hot dude. Your arguement makes perfect sense. We camped next to you guys last year and it was great. Just a Tad less boisterous than up the hill . Im down for the campground. If it rains can I sleep in the garage Martin?  :smt044 :smt006
