Welcome,
My name is Dan and I run Headwaters Kayak Shop in Lodi. What kind of paddling/ fishing do you hope to do? I have a few options at my store that would work for your size and would be happy to give you advise on other kayaks on the market that would also work. Most of the kayaks I have are 12 - 14' long. I carry Cobra, Necky, and Native. I also have a few used and trade in kayaks to help people get started. You are clone to demo ny of our kayaks out if your interested.

209-224-8367. Thanks Dergib for the referral.

An Ocean Kayak Trident 15  angler edition with a rudder would be a good boat for a guy your size. Yes see Kat at fishermans warehouse in Sac.

Funny you should ask :smt003,
I am 6'2" and also weigh 240.
My favorite ride is the Trident 15 which as many know has worked out very well for me.
I also would recomend looking at the Ultra 4.7 which may become my go to yak after a few mods I've been working on.
Here is a special I posted a few days ago:

Take your time and try a few different models before you jump into any one, and pick what is best for you.
If i can answer any questions feel free to call me.

I am 6'2 and float between 216-230, I have a used hobie quest, which I find to be really stable.  Plenty of room, it doesn't have as many features as some of the newer boats do, but it gets the job done. As for a paddle I use a bending branches touring length paddle with the yardstick marked on it.

Hobie Outback, Pro Angler, Revolution 13, or Adventure. It seems like there aren't many Hobie dealers in NorCal. I can only think of the 2 you mentioned plus Kayak Connection in Santa Cruz.
Where do you plan to do most of your kayaking--freshwater or salt? Because that should factor into your decision too.

Yep, he said Peddle Kayak guys  :smt044

Here is another option for you: http://www.sportsexpos.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewlocation&locationnumber=1  Coming up in a few weeks up in Sac.  Many guys have gotten a great deal on kayaks at this event on closeouts from last years models.  If your serious, bring cash and make an offer.  Hardly ANY Hobie dealers give any sort of discount on their boats.

Another Sac option for Hobies is California Canoe and Kayak on Folsom Blvd in Rancho Cordova.  They will let you demo as well.

I just joined this club last week. In September I bought a Wavewalker peddle kayak. I am 6'3'' 225. I can stand on it and
rock it back and forth, it won't roll over. There is a guy in Half Moon Bay that sells them. Let me know if you want him to set you up a test ride. www.hydrocycles.com.

These three guys know what they're talking about!  I'm one of those that Al mentioned who got a great deal on a kayak at the show.  You can get a GREAT deal if you don't have to have a 2012 model.  If you can live with an unused 2011 boat, you can easily save another $300-$400 if you don't mind haggling.  Go between vendors and pit them against each other.  :smt004

With the help of yourself, PK, and Bird, I came up with this list of Northern CA dealers, in order based on proximity to you in Elk Grove:

Adventure Sports - Sacramento & Rancho Cordova
California Canoe & Kayak - Rancho Cordova, Oakland, & Half Moon Bay
Sunrise Mountain Sports - Livermore
Wind Toys - Santa Rosa
Mel Cottons - San Jose
Kayak Connection - Santa Cruz

In the past, the top 4 dealers have traditionally been at the Expo.

Hardly ANY Hobie dealers give any sort of discount on their boats.

Although I can't verify it, I've heard that Hobie won't allow its dealers to discount their products.  At least those of the current year.

Are they affiliated with ACK out of Texas ?

Can't say for sure but I don't think they are.

+1 on sportsexpos-

BTW, am I the only one who thought this looked like sport-sexpos instead of sports-expos  :smt044

Hope this helps!
