Short report, no fish.

We had a ton of yakkers out today. I am guessing 10 or so. Joel, Jason, Troy, JTF, Kayak James, Nate, Dustin, Gary and others whose names escape me right now.

We headed out to make bait at the poop pipe but it was obvious someone forgot to turn it on. It was barely a trickle and was tough to locate. After a while it really started flowing. I caught a big jack smelt tat was promptly Mooched. James was on fire catching the shiners and walleye but most of them where way to big for bait. After about an hour we decided to go with what we had and start fishing.

Wind had kicked up making the drift a real pain. We fished outside in 25' for a while then head inside to 14' nothing anywhere. Good news was that my bait tube worked perfectly and I am pretty sure my halibut trolling setu was working ok.

Lonny was headed for the tubes, hopefully he had better luck in the morning. JTF, Ethan and te PFIC crew where headed over there when we got off the water. Look forward to there report.

Still not a bad paddle. The only thing we saw caught where sharks so the fish are not stacked in there yet.

Not much to add to Bill's accurate and thourogh post. It was really nice to see so many guys out there and that is what made it fun.  Catching fish is a bonus, at least for now.  Each skunk make the stakes a little higher and the WAF a little lower.

Great lunch choice at Kamamishi Joel.

skunk for me also, didn't matter much as i enjoyed being out on my new yak alot.  it was good to also fish with some buddies i met from another fishing message board, gp and bungle, or Joey and Nate,  both these guys represented themselves very well for their first times fishing from a kayak even though we didn't catch anything,,, unless of course bait fish count!  :smt003

My buddy Robert(red fishndive) showed up late and convinced me to go try the tubes at brisbane.  Their actually squares, didn't know that.  We passed two kayaks coming in who hadn't caught anything but still went for it with some last minute advice from Jason.  On the paddle to the tubes I had the wind at my back and was riding the outgo,  the new yak didn't disappoint.

Got there and proceeded to fish the tubes and once red saw me go into the whitewater he started getting in close also.  Probabley my 4th pass in the water sucked me in real close and sideways so i dropped one leg down to counter steer my nose straight with the current and as I pulled my leg back in I fell out the other side.  My yak didn't tip over but my little tackle box took a swim, didn't float.  Getting back in the tarpon was simple enough and that was my first unexpected spill I've had.

I had a funny feeling that was gonna happen at some point today.  We fished and fished and finally called it quits around 3.  Thanks again Bill for the paddle and also the swimbaits.  Those things are great!!!  Cant wait to slay me some reds and lings.

Yeah.  Where we had lunch today they were selling anchovies for $5.95.  I don't remember if they were grilled or what.  There were 5 or 6 on the plate in the picture.

KayakJames caught a huge Walleye perch at he poop pipe, if we had been surf perching it would have been the fish of the day for sure. Funny how that works...

Yes, we definitely caught CA record class walleyes today. Quite a fight on my 4lb UltraLite.

Nice to get together with the fellas, and break in two new members. Also, some much needed exercise.

Can't wait to do it again!

Attached is the two noobs.  :smt003

JTF,

Nice meeting you today and sorry about the tubes giving you hell. I am surprised you spilled, the wind must have really picked up.  Although I have hooked up at all times I feel the most confident right afte the tides turns up to two and half or 3 hours.  I will try to hit it this week and hopefully I will have more positive results to post.

I had a blast today!  It was great to meet the new faces and see some PFICers I don't get to fish with that often.  A big thanks to a good group of folks for your helpfulness and patience.  Thanks for coming through with the ride, GP!

Hope to see you guys out there on a yak of my own someday soon :smt003

It was definitely a good day for everything but fish. Yes I did masacre the waleye but its hard to get excited about perch that are worthless for eating and no good for bait. They are sh!ty fish anyway you look at it.

Ended up using the one haring I caught all day for bait and when the perch were released from my bait tube they were all alive and swam away in a heartbeat.
all in all good trip anyway its always good to try new spots and meet new people.

I had a blast out there getting some much needed exercise! Thought I would be a little sorer today than I actually am, surprising. Glad to meet the NCKA crew and see a few familiar faces.

Thanks for the loaner, or BMW model yak Joel, worked like a charm. Enjoy the ice cold refreshing coca-cola classic.  :smt003

I think I am pretty much hooked, as if I had a doubt I would be after my first trip! Now if I could only catch non-bait fish. It is funny how when you don't want to catch perch, they throw themselves at your sibiki. But go to target them, and they run from your hook. Some of the biggest walleye I have seen.

Joel has a picture of the first 'yak fish I caught.  :smt005

Better luck next time Red and JTF! See you in Catalina this weekend Robert.

Nice to read you let the unused bait free.....the FishGods still see that as a good deed and you will be rewarded.(thats what I say to myself when releasing purchased-livebait.)

why no good for bait? There was a picture in the sniffer of a big bluegill stuck in a stripers throat.

Most fish will eat any fish they can inhale.

I think a fish would eat a walleye if it could get hold of it.
