My first time to the Brisbane Tubes and fishing off of Oyster Point.  Looking at pictures doesn't do the tubes justice, once the tide gets moving...that's a flood not just slow tidal movement.  I got to the tubes late, just after Bill and the guys left and watched this guy get bait using a cast net.  He pulled in some good sized herring and smelt for his bait.

When I was headed home I saw the two yaks that John (JTF) mentioned in his report.  They were on the Bay side of the tubes so I was wondering where they launched from.

For the guys that had FF's, Oyster Point looked like Grand Central Station, there were balls of bait all over the place and small schools of fish (Stripers?) following them.  It makes San Pablo Bay look like the Sahara Desert.  I was straggling behind everyone because I would slow my drift down when I came across something that might "see" my baited herring.  Just like most guys I caught a monster sized herring for bait and dragged it around for most of the day.

I was wondering if anyone in the past had anchored up like the PBs did?  Instead of fighting the wind and tide would we have increased our chances if we had waited for the fish to find our bait?

I want to thank Jason (jselli) for writing his article, giving us all this intel and putting us on this choice spot.  Always good to see fishing buddies from previous trips and meet other folks from NCKA for the first time.  I suspect the newbies are looking hard for their own kayaks now...welcome to the madness that keeps bringing us back for more.

Nice to see every one had a good time!  I was looking on from shore (work) at Genentech.  I counted about 10 yaks at one point.  Way to represent!  I think the yak will be coming to work with me from now on :smt001. The worst day of fishing is better than the best day at work.  I was a tad bit jealous. :smt012  At least I got paid to be at oyster point yesterday.

Jason, let me know when you are going to hit the tubes, so I can tag along.

I had a blast out there getting some much needed exercise! Thought I would be a little sorer today than I actually am, surprising. Glad to meet the NCKA crew and see a few familiar faces.

Thanks for the loaner, or BMW model yak Joel, worked like a charm. Enjoy the ice cold refreshing coca-cola classic.  :smt003

I think I am pretty much hooked, as if I had a doubt I would be after my first trip! Now if I could only catch non-bait fish. It is funny how when you don't want to catch perch, they throw themselves at your sibiki. But go to target them, and they run from your hook. Some of the biggest walleye I have seen.

Joel has a picture of the first 'yak fish I caught.  :smt005

Better luck next time Red and JTF! See you in Catalina this weekend Robert.

Yeah, it was fun regardless at the tubes as I kept paddling into the out-flow and getting washed out 30 yards then repeating the process. Was kind of like "Rip Roaring Rapids" and was worth the trip alone :-) Don't know how JTF fell out because I was "shooting the tubes"  on some gnarly waves.
Anyway, see ya in Catalina.

Just so you know if you don't claim the sunglasses in a timely fashion Joel will wear them around until you claim them.

tarpon 160 review for Joel, my blue was faster than old blue, funny doing the foot pedal thing wasn't it?  :smt005  that is one sweet ride, easy to get back into also :smt005  its gonna take some getting use to not being able to stand up and stretch out, walk around and grab stuff from the tank well, the hobie was quite the cadillac of yaks, but the tarpon is more comparable to a sports car.

also, the tarpon has a better design for mounting fish finders on!   :light  jtf..

ps. joel, its jtf. get it right or I plant a banana tree at your house :geek:
