as a kid I was a raider fan.  When they became the LA Raiders, my family double stink eye cursed the Raiders, mostly Al Davis and switched to the 49ers.

in the Oakland hills is a mortuary, Chapel of the Chimes.  My father and mother have a spot in the wall, where an urn holds their ashes.  My Dad loved the view from that spot.  Cityscape with the bay in the background.  The wall below that view is the high rent district.  These are huge spots where an entire casket can go in sideways.  Of the 8 spots, only 2 had been occupied.  One is occupied by legendary blues man Johnny Lee Hooker.  The other is a Chinese guy who founded some big ass bank.  The newest is Al Davis.

Most of the spots have a bronze plaque showing born, died, and maybe a few words.  Medical, military and service organization markers abound.  But Al has none of these.  He has his signature for his name, and a huge 3 by 4 foot glossy pic of himself.

sorry for the pic quality, its my dumb phone, and the glossy pic reflected no matter what I did.

The irony is that my dad would be pissed to have to stare at Al for eternity.  I picture a nightly brawl breaking out between niner and raider fans.  My old man will be leading the charge.  If I go and find a niner flag glued to Al's pic, I have a feeling I know how it got there

:smt005 :smt005 that's good stuff. Ive been to a few ceremonies at chapel of the chimes and I used to walk my dogs through there all the time. Its one of the quietest, most peaceful places in oakland. Nice place to spend eternity.   :smt001
